How did you get into MoPars ?

Growing up my parents had a mix of GM and Mopar. My dad was a big guy so we always had big cars, New Yorkers, Imperials, Electra 225, Olds 88s. My aunt bought a 55 Chevy 2dr ht V8 auto new. I loved that car. My first memory of looking at a car engine was in 59 when I was 8 and seeing the 392...

    DIFFERENT FOR SURE

The same thing was done to lots of trifive Chevys way back when, turn 4dr sedans into shorty 2drs. There was over 5 million trifive Chevys of all body styles built, probably half to two thirds of them were 4dr sedans. These days, because any 2dr sedan body brings good money, people are...

    3.9 V6

I had two different B300 vans over a twenty year period. Had the engines out and back in on both of them. It's not that hard. Used a cherry picker, out the front, without sawing anything open. The factory shop manual says to pull off the oil pan. Screw that. I chained the cherry picker boom down...

    Dodge Van tow vehicle ??

I believe they first offered big blocks in '75. I have owned a '74 and a '75, the opening where the dog house fits on was definitely wider on the '75. The '74 with 3.73 gears got 12-14 mpg, no matter how you drove it or the load. The '75 with a 360 and 4.10 gears got 9-11 mpg, no matter how you...

    Dodge Van tow vehicle ??

In '74 I bought a new B300. It had a 318, auto and a dana 60 with 3.73 gears. I believe that back then only B300s had 8 lug wheels. They also had quite large front rotors and rear drums. One thing that helped a lot was headers, the exhaust pipe connection on the manifolds was tiny, something...

Legal question about Antique vehicles and the seat belt laws

I have been a believer in seat belts ever since I walked away from stuffing my '66 A100 head on into a telephone pole at about 30 mph 50 years ago. I firmly believe they saved me from serious injury or death. And they were just lap belts.

10 New Rams Stolen from the factory!

I think it is standard procedure to leave keys in vehicles in assembly plant lots, a lot easier than trying to keep track of thousands of keys. After all it is supposed to be a secure lot. The southern edge of the Mound rd. plant property is on 8 mile rd. The northern border of Detroit is 8...

1975 So Cal "installed Smog Thing"

I knew someone who bought a '55 Chevy from Cali in the mid 70s and it had one of those things spliced into the upper rad. hose.

    New Ram Design

The plain trucks are still out there, you've just got to look for them. A guy in town here who's a plumber just got a plain white no frills 18 Ram.

    Swinger rarity...

I've owned two '69 Swingers, the first one I bought new in Sept. '69. I really wanted a Charger, but too much money for an 18 year old, so I got the Dart instead. As old man mopar said, they were strippo cars, but the one I got had an odd mix of features. 318, auto on column, deluxe interior...

    67 Barracuda Conv. Doors Interchange

I replaced the door on my 67 vert with a door off a 68 notch. I got real lucky and found a rust free door locally. The 68 door was partially stripped, no glass or vent window assembly. Both doors had remote control outside mirrors that were located the same. When looking at swapping parts...

list your most moronic thing you've seen done to a car

For many years, starting in '73, I had a job in the engineering lab of an auto parts manufacturer. Over the years I got to look at lots of new and used cars up on lifts. Saw a '65 Tempest with seat belts holding up the exhaust system. Saw a '62 Impala with the bottom of the frame gone, rusted...

    Mid 60's assembly line pics

And the picture of the Mustangs with no hoods is probably at Shelby since there is a bunch of Cobras just beyond the Mustangs.

    Mid 60's assembly line pics

Because I worked for a parts manufacturer I ended up going into several different assembly plants in the late 80s to mid 90s. It's something every car guy should see at least once.

    Late A preferences--a survey

Even just early lap belts can be pretty effective. I walked away from totaling my very first vehicle, a '66 A100 that I stuffed head on into a telephone at about 30 mph because I was using them. Without them I would've been seriously injured or dead.

    Late A preferences--a survey

I like the 67-69 Darts and Cudas best, owned two 69 Darts, bought the first one new, it had a couple real minor QC glitches, have a 67 Cuda now, like it a lot. As for QC being better in the 70s, It went downhill across the board for all the car companies, everybody was turning out some pretty...

    Pro-Stock going "silhouette" racing?

I've been to the BG event several times, had a good time. Some people I know from the Detroit area helped out with a couple of the Cacklefest cars. Met and talked to some old time nitro racers. The first NHRA event I ever attended was the Sportsnationals at BG in '77. The place hasn't changed...

Cars you'd sell your A body for

They are different but nice looking cars. The '63s with the round headlight cover look a little nicer, IMO. I helped two different people run Studebaker powered 63 Avantis at Bonneville. Both cars eventually hit 200 mph after a LOT of work on the engines.

Cars you'd sell your A body for

I transplanted a Cummins into a 75 Dodge B300 van in 93, after driving that I don't ever want a gas powered heavy duty truck again.

    Pro-Stock going "silhouette" racing?

There is a lot of things about current day NHRA racing that I'm not real enthused about it, but I still very much like the sound of power that the nitro cars and pro stock have. I have a lot of memories from 40 years ago about how it was that I like a whole lot more than how it is today. I...

Cars you'd sell your A body for

I like those old power wagons too, but it would have to have a Cummins transplant. There is about a half dozen or more 60s cars I would love to have, but they would be in addition to my 67 Barracuda convertible.

    Holy Dodge Hot Wings!!!

I was talking about the appearance of the car at the beginning of this post. I think the turbine cars look kind of like a 61-63 T-bird and I think the T-bird's designer had a hand in the turbine car design. I like the turbine car styling, bold but not outlandish. As far as loaning the turbine...

    Holy Dodge Hot Wings!!!

There were a lot of dream cars, idea cars, show cars back in the 50s and into the early 60s. From all the manufacturers. Some were pretty outlandish and something that was not a realistic idea to even consider building. Sometimes some of the styling or special features would make it into...

    Classic industries floormats vs yearone?

I got a set of mats through California Car Cover, they were made by Lloyds Mats. Lloyds has hundreds of car and other logos to pick from, mine have the Barracuda script on them. A set of four, but script only on front mats was $150

    1969 Dart GT

Congratulations, looks like you picked up a solid car. I really like 69 Darts, I've had two of them over the years, the first one I bought new in Sept. of 69. It was a 318 Swinger, bottom line on the window sticker was $3100. Were you able to get it for less than $3500?

Does anybody remember mobile engine overhaul outfits?

Yes, they are good. A good machine design can be timeless. I once saw a very old Kwikway machine in a museum, which didn't look much different than the one I used in the early 70s, that I think dated to the early 50s, to the ones in the pictures in this post. I can see the lineage from old to...
