    A-999 behind a 340

I have the 340 sitting in the shed, so it isn't worth the hassle of selling and then going and getting a 360. My biggest concern is the lock-up feature of the tranny- how will it act and hold up behind a decently-built 340? Never built a Mopar w/this feature and I've heard that this tranny don't...

    A-999 behind a 340

Anybody know much about the lock-up feature on the tranny? Behind a warmed-over 340 (not too radical, I like A/C and decent manners in a driver) anybody have any issues/thoughts?

    A-999 behind a 340

Thanks guys- it is a pretty decent car and definitely should be fun to drive. The only cosmetic thing wrong w/the car is the clear coat is peeling, so it will be getting a re-spray. Mechanically it is in great shape, but choked-down 318's of the era were definitely not as efficient and as...

    A-999 behind a 340

Just got an '85 Gran Fury that is in great shape; is an AHB car that was used by the KC fire inspector. I know it is no A-body, but the car has 90k on the odo and all the HD stuff is present and in great shape. The only real downer is the 165 SAE HP rating (and the clear coat has lepersy). I...

Stock 904 Trans - What Fluid

Type F (aka Ford's old shool ATF) grabs tighter, slips less. I run a 50/50 mix of synthetic and type F in the transaxle of my turbo minivan and have had no issues in over 50k miles (the A-413 is a derivative of the 904 internals).

    Rear axle bearings

I need to put new bearings and seals in my newly-acquired 8 3/4". I had put green bearings in my old '68 Coronet Wagon and they failed within a year...done with 'em! Went to Hub Bearing and ordered a new set of Timkens and seals for under $70. Argue all you want, but why didn't Mopar install the...

    Timken bearings

Found a place out of Ohio called Hub Bearing; you can find them @ hubbearing.com . The axle set for our 8 3/4 are $27.94 or $27.99 each. The Timken part number is 'Set 7.' The axle seals are under $2.00 each- the only place here that even knew what I was talking about was NAPA and they wanted...

    A-100 8 3/4"

I'm going w/340 springs, torsion bars, poly bushings in the leaf spring eyes, sub-frame connectors, torque boxes, and a gusseted K-frame. I've got the 12" discs, c-body tie rods, 20-1 steering gear, 8 3/4 housing brace, front sway bar, rear bar (modified '89 Gran Fury piece), KYB's, Moog...

    Axle bearing question

    A-100 8 3/4"

I am buying an A-100 rear end from a rural yard for $175 complete. The measurement is identical to those for my '69 Valiant. I know the spring perches have to be changed from top-riding to bottom-hung. Has anybody ever utilized one of these rears in their cars? Any other pitfalls? Oh, I did...

Somebody please help me buy some axles.

Had 2 bad experiences w/green bearings in my Coronet 500 and my 300...they didn't last more than 10k miles before they started making noise. Get the Timken's, have them set up properly (ie-spend the money the first time), and enjoy! Green bearings are junk on anything you plan to drive even on a...

    904 or 727

I will build it abit; the Transgo kit, low gear set & 5-clutch kit from an A-999, and a bolt-in sprag. Not sure how much HP/TQ this combo will make, but I am keeping a 400/400 number in my head. I don't believe the motor will hit these numbers, but if I build the tranny for this goal I shouldn't...

    904 or 727

The '73 was a parts car that ran well...my budget builder is a '69 V-100 2-dr sedan. 87K original miles, no rot, stripper, originally owned by a grandma, and bought from her 60 year old grandson for $150. Some guys around here think I am nuts for even thinking about the 904, but the lighter...

    904 or 727

Last Fall I scored a '73 Dart for $100, it was beat but ran really well. Me and 2 friends stripped it and each took what we wanted from the carcass. One of my goodies was the 904 tranny, which I was thinking about openning up and seeing if it had the 5-clutch pack, lower first gear, etc. If it...
