They're just sitting on the splines- not necessarily pressed. You need to pick the wiper arm off the windshied to take the tension off the splines. Mine came off easy by just wiggling it up side to side while pulling up but some of them can be really stuck on there! They make a tool for that...

My 71 has nuts holding it on in some places. Open a door and look at the very back near the top of the door frame. You should see a nut there is memory serves

I think the 70's and 71's use the trim piece that goes farther in and the 72's are shorter. Hopefully someone will confirm this for you.
