Mine overflows too but heard it was pretty common. I think there is some type of vent line that helps prevent this but still need to look into it.

I've read of using a brass or wood punch to prevent sparks.

Mine is a '72 318. The car was built in Oct 71. So might not have hardened exhaust seats? Going to get hardened seats or new heads later anyways when it's rebuilt someday.

and make sure the small sections of hose are the right diameter. They should fit as close as possible to the metal fuel line.

here's what mine looks like

x2 on checking to adjust the cable. If you cut the carpet, check that you don't leave any frays/strings to catch onto the pedal. Or for that matter check either way (floor mats, etc). Don't wanna mash it so hard that it gets stuck!!:burnout:

Does this happen only when cold or even after its warm?

Mine has a cap on one of them. But, I do have a charcoal canister. I'll probably find out where it goes and reconnect it one of these days.

Simple green works pretty good and it is not bad for the environment! I haven't tried it on a carburetor but I use it to clean my engine.

There are some on ebay for around $170. Cant really comment on the quality since some brands online might be better. There are some Canadian ones that look decent.

Thanks for the help. I checked with a caliper and it was 5/16". I compared the two hoses and there is a decent difference so its probably best to switch them out to 5/16". Will be doing the work again now thanks to the last guy who mixed and matched!!

My gas gauge reads empty, then I fill it until the pump clicks off, and by then it overflows. It only takes about 6 gallons from empty until full. I know that it holds more than that.
