    What's the clunking noise??

Quick update, I added a bottle of the Motorcraft additive today and drove to work. So far the noise is very minimal compared to before. I haven't had time to do the figure 8s in the parking lot yet. Not sure what is in the little magic bottle that smells like T-Rex puke but it seems to do the...

    What's the clunking noise??

Lol!! Nope. It would clunk turning both directions.

    What's the clunking noise??

Green bearings. I will try a bottle of additive. Getting the Motorcraft that Dr. Diff sells. If it doesn't improve I will pull it out. Right now I just try to drive it in a way to keep it from doing it but it's rather annoying. As far as comparing noise lever to a locker, it's been over 20...

    What's the clunking noise??

I don't believe it's a locker. I had one of those in a bronco before. This is way louder than that. Is there a particular brand of modifier that works best?

    What's the clunking noise??

Valvoline 80w-90 and a sure grip additive I believe.

    What's the clunking noise??

Hey everyone. I put a supposedly rebuilt 489 center section in my 8.75 rear axle a couple of years back. Bought it at an estate sale. Gentleman who owned at had passed away. It has a limited slip but I can't remember if it's clutch or cone type. I get a loud clunking/ popping or ratcheting...

904 lock up or non lock up, which one to build?

Hey everyone, making some changes to my wagon and I need to have a trans built. I have a non lockup 904 and I also have a lockup 904 trans. Which one should I have built? I will be running a mildly built 318 and using it for street driving. Nothing radical. Thanks in advance for the help.

Need help. Setting up new gear set 742 case

None taken. This is true. Every pinion set is probably a little different. My rebuild kit from Dr.Diff came with a small bag of shims that were all the same thickness. My old pinion only used 1 shim. The 4 shims was the magic number for this particular pinion.

Need help. Setting up new gear set 742 case

Just an update. Took it back apart, added 5 shims on the front, pinion too loose. Removed 2, pinion too tight. 4 shims is the magic number for this pinion. All back together just in time to go to work.

Need help. Setting up new gear set 742 case

When I put it together I used my impact and just snugged the pinion nut. I had my backlash set at .008 and my pattern looked good. That's when I went to torque the pinion nut and realized the pinion preload was wrong. I will add shims and try again tomorrow, This is my first one. Big learning...

Need help. Setting up new gear set 742 case

Hey everyone. I'm attempting to change the ring and pinion set in a 742 case. Everything was looking good until I went to torque pinion nut to 240lbs and it all locks up. I reused the shims from the gear set I removed hoping it would get me close. The shim in between the pinion gear and aft...

manual valve body 727 trans question

Thanks for the input everyone. Mine has a B&M shifter in it but it only ratchets 1 direction. I guess they make some like the hammer and megashifter that ratchet in both directions. I will probably change the shifter for now. Looking at the hammer shifter.( if any has any input on that shifter...

manual valve body 727 trans question

I just purchased a mopar with a reverse manual valve body trans. Unfortunately the shifter doesn't work with it without pulling T handle from each gear (doesn't rachet backwards). Will it hurt the trans to drive it in 3rd all of the time? I don't plan on racing the car. Maybe I should put a...

Thanks for the info. Not sure if the viper input shaft and LS input shaft are the same o.d. I will look into it.

pilot bearing for 360 magnum /T56 swap

I'm sourcing parts for a T56 trans install in my 67 Dart. I will be using a T56 from a 2001 Firebird which had the LS motor in it and a Quicktime bellhousing. Does anyone know where I can find a pilot bushing that will work in my 360 magnum motor for this T56? Thanks

    lockup 904 questions

I will be installing a mild 318 in my 72 dart shortly. Several years ago I picked up a decent working 904 trans with roughly 80,000 miles on it. It is a lockup 904, early 80's model. A couple of questions: 1. I had someone tell me to get a torque converter with a dummy lockup for it. Does...

Are 3.55 gears a good choice?

I just picked up a 3.55 for my Dart. I have 3.91s in it now. I am running a T5 trans and plan on doing so road trips with it. With my 26" tires and the overdrive it should put my rpms around 2400 at 75mph. Randy's ring and pinion has a handy calculator that I used for my calculations...

    489 case, pinion seal question

I am going to look at a differential for my dart. It is a 489 case, 3.55 single track. Apparently the previous owner took the nut off of the yoke and it is missing. Do I have to have the whole diff set up again since it has a crush washer? If so can anyone recommend a decent video or website to...

    200R4 update

I think it is wrong to charge your card before the item is ready to ship. I have ordered items from vendors before and they don't charge your card until the item is shipped. As far as the 200 4r is concerned, they have been around long enough that the inherently weak pieces have been identified...

    200R4 update

Some food for thought. I have done a bit of investigative work on the 200 4r setup as well and found these guys in Cincinnati. Seems like they are up for the job as well. I know everyone talks highly of Art Carr but I am sure he's not the only one who can build a good transmission...

Which 5 speed do I get?

I've been using a hydraulic clutch and throw out bearing for 2 years now with my T5. Love it.
