Yeah, as vdart points out, the Aussie cars were mechanically similar but everything else is different. I have a USA built '63 Downunder). Hey, maybe you could change yours to RHD??? LOL

Yes, you can clean it with a wire brush. The intake mani doesn't get the same heat as the exhaust mani does. You just remove the old paint on your intake, clean it and spray it with engine enamel. Read the can and it will tell you that the paint needs to sort of "cure" with heat. Just don't...
