Decided to sell my 65 Barracuda so I took out the 8 3/4 to keep and put in a 7 1/4. I think it lasted about 2 weeks. Went to lunch one day, launched at a light and bam! By the time I got back, it was locking, binding and hopping. Broke the spider gear and crossshaft. Had to swap the 8 3/4 back in.

What is your definition of "seize" ? You said it did this and then 3 hours later you started it right back up? I'm not following you here. You open the throttle and the motor just stops and will not even crank or turn over with the starter?

You may have hurt the transmission. Never do a burnout and let off in 1st gear. Either run it out till it stops spinning on it's own or shift to second, then let off. I'm not a transmission guy, but have spent lots of money with him fixing my mistakes! It has something to do with the drum or...

Tires start spinning in first then let off? Or anytime in the last few weeks, spinning or burnout in first gear then let off before shifting into 2nd?

Did you just get done doing a burnout in first gear?

So any 904 slip yoke will fit the 1966 833 4 speed? Am I understanding this correctly? And later 67- up 4 speeds use the same slip yoke as a 727. I have a 1966 4 speed out of a Dart GT with the 273 4 bbl. The car was wrecked hard in the late 60's and sat. I traded a slant 6 for it and parted it...

When my 7 1/4 let go after a week of use, it started jumping, and binding when you took a corner. It broke the spider gear shaft.

Any idea what this is and value? I think this would have the tapered axles with keyed hubs, correct?

That's the problem. If it was a /6, no problem, but has to be a small block 64-65 case because of the cable shift.

I thought about putting the pieces back in place, then bolting it to a bare block when welding, then removing and completing the weld on the inside.

I have a 64-65 cable shift v-8 904 transmission that has a broke bell housing. I have the pieces that broke out. What are the chances this can be welded back together and hold? It will be behind a stock 273 or 318. The trans was good before this happened. What do you think?

Thanks for the info. Now , what about the chrome, round bezel? Mine is rusty and needs replacement.
