We (I) didn't say the entire chart is flipped. Just the area between 900 and 2400 rpm is increasing/decreasing the wrong way. I know what kPA means in relation to Vacuum. I run a digital ignition too on my Dart.

Why the 'blue dip area' from 900-1200rpm? Why would your engine suddenly like 4.5° less timing at that point? Presuming you have an auto transmission, to find out what your engine likes best at idle rpm, just put it in Drive, adjust the rpm to what you want, and start playing with the ignition...

I hadn't seen the 2nd 'gen' Borgeson box before but it looks like it's pretty much the same size as a manual box... Which helps out a lot of 'big-engines in tight A-bodies enginebays' installs.

No Hemi, but my 318 Dart runs 2400 rpm at around 73mph with 3.55 gears and a 46RH (non-lockup). 17" wheels. 2400rpm happens to be exactly around the peak torque number of the engine.

I have learned Edelbrock/Carter carbs don't like open/single plane intakes under them. I've had good results in dealing with bogs after I installed 2" four-holed spacers under them to increase vacuumsignal to the carbs. If you have the hood clearance you might want to try that.

15mpg with a 6spd (1 overdrive gear?) sounds fairly 'sad' to be honest. Somewhere in August I made a similar highway roundtrip and managed 20mpg with my propane 318 cruising around 50mph most of the time. Have you tuned the engine (for economy) properly?

The stock low cr 318 in my '73 Dart does 13-14mpg on average. 2bbl 318 / A518 / 3.91:1 / 8-3/4" rear. The 318 runs on propane. On gasoline it would do prob. 15-16mpg. If the 5.7Hemi I've planned to swap in the car doesn't get anything way above 20mpg on propane in this lightweight car I'd be...

The other day while I started prepping my 5.7 for buildup, I noticed something interesting. Looking at/into the oilfilter mount, I noticed 2 little holes in the casting, besides the inlet-port leading into the oilfilter. The holes were formed because the casting was thin enough there to break...

All (stock'ish) 3rd gen Hemi-cams are hydraulic, afaik. I'm not aware you can get flattappet cams for 3rd gen Hemi's, but if so, then yes break them in as stated. With a rollercam, either hydraulic or solid, you don't have to break in the cam.

Nice write up. When I get my 5.7 back together I will be doing pretty much the same of you're doing. Although my engine's fuel will be LPG, which uses 2 more driverboxes for the low-impedance injectors.

I've learned most of the 'discarded' Hemi's have bearing-problems. Personally I think the thin oil used these engines, just can't provide enough protection against the abuse they get when used in heavy pickups, leadfoot drivers and carrying heavy loads. I would start at the bottom end first...

Thanks! Looking at pics of a stock PS-box and comparing the mounting holes, I get the feeling the crossshaft on the Borgeson box wil end up slightly lower entirely aswell.

Would be nice if someone who has a power steeringbox laying around could make some measurements. I will at least try to get some specs on my Dart tonight.

Thanks a bunch for those pics. It gives me some hope powersteering will be do-able with a 3rd.gen Hemi under the hood. For sure the exhaust will need to make a very tight turn. Would it be possible to move the engine over to the pass.side a bit more by altering the motormounts?

Me three... I would also like to know how much and where the Hemi exactly intereferes with the powersteering box. I have a similar swap planned and my daily '73 Dart has power steering and brakes. Not willing to give that up without a good fight! I got myself a 5.7 Hemi yesterday so I'm looking...
