    Rochester 2bbl rebuild Q

Over here at Pittsburgh motor speedway, (1/2 mile) when the hobby stock class pulls in for inspection, the officials go get a hot dog. 2 years ago we won the last race of the year by 4 seconds. Last year we set the track record. But if they look down into the carb we’re toast!!

    Rochester 2bbl rebuild Q

Save the old check ball. After you get it all cleaned up, drop the old check ball back down in there. Then reach down in there with a small punch and give the top of the ball a little wack with a small hammer. This will assure that your seat is concentric. Turn the carb body upside down. If the...

    Is this engine knock ?

I had a screw stick in the top of a piston, then on cool down it would come out, and rattle on initial start up. Then get stuck during hard RPM. One in a while unloging itself. It will usually smash the electrode.

Pull the plugs, make sure nothing found it’s way into a cylinder.

Edelbrock StepUp Springs w/ 20 vacuum

I like to bring a vacuum guage inside the car and monitor the vacuum in high gear and a light load at cruising speed 55-60. Then start jetting down a couple thousandths at a time until a lean surge develops. Then jet back up a couple thousandths. Now you’ll want the springs to give you...

    Too much timing?

Awesome Mattax! I’ve ever seen that on a graph like that. Thanks

    Too much timing?

    No point. You win.

    Too much timing?

    1. Late timing will build heat much faster. 2. If your vacuum increases then your combustion is more efficient. 3. Late timing sends unburnt fuel out of the tailpipe.

    six barrel

Connect a hose to manifold vacuum and run the guage inside the car. Drive at cruising speed in high gear, flat to moderate grade, take a reading of the guage and report back.

    Carb issue?

Nah, replacing throttle blades is just nuts and bolts, like everything else. And epoxy done right does not fall out.

    Carb issue?

Why go spend money on a different pcv. There is no crime drilling throttle blades. If you later use the carb on something different, just replace the blades or epoxy them shut.

    Carb issue?

didn’t mean it to be smart, just trying to reiterate.

    Carb issue?

Just drill some idle air bypass holes in the front side of the primary throttle blades. Start around .093

    While we’re discussing 408 cams

I called Mike a Jones and told him I am building a 408 for my 84 3/4 ton 518 o/d with a low gear set and a 3.54 outback on a 31” tire. I will be towing 10-12k. It is mechanical by choice. He told me to put it in @ 109-110

Does Clevite offer 360 X series bearings

No, but thank you. They had what they called X series that were made just for gaining more clearance . I just can’t seem to find them for a Chrysler 360 1971

Does Clevite offer 360 X series bearings

Just installed H series bearings in my 71 360/408 tow truck build. I have .00125 clearance across the board. I think I’d like to pickup.0005-.001 more clearance. My turning torque with just the crank installed is 20-40 inch/lbs. but the 20 inch/lb spot is in the same place every time. I assume...

Magnum Head / sunk exhaust valve

If you get new seats installed make sure your guy knows that the water jacket is much closer to the bottom of the seat than a LA cylinder head.

    Which Intake valve?

Going together with a new mill for my 3/4 dodge. I will be driving regularly, towing 8k-9k. 408 cu.in. 9.5:1, 230/234@ .050, aprox. .495 lift, 112 lobe sep. 518 trans. I already have 2 sets of 915 heads done, One has the 1.88 intake the other has the 2.02. The truck will never see anything over...

    273 4bbl, carb replacement?

If you decide to go with a new carb, I’m pretty sure I have a rebuilt 67 273 AFB on the shelf, pretty sure I replated most of the linkage. Or If you are looking for a thermoquad, I can build to suit, and will beat Summit on price and quality.

    WIW 360 stamped 12 of 1970

I know nothing about the internals. Previous owners son said it was running when pulled. I'm going to start it on the shop floor before I advertise it. So what is a fair asking price? thanks
