    Headers vs. Manifolds

Looks like a less than ideal solution with Hedman shorties. Hedman Shorty headers for a B body on an A body Looks like long tubes fit better, but no mention of manufacture. B-Body Headers In An A-Body

    Headers vs. Manifolds

Based on the BBD article I linked above, only a 440 or other tall blocks need angle milling to fit. Not saying it doesn’t require work, but doesn’t sound like it would require machine work. Personally, I would buy the available manifolds, bolt them on and see how it feels. If you need more...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

I assumed the BB head would be better than an iron SB head, but just a guess. At least the BB head can take a bigger valve, right? You're not wrong. I'm actually coming up on 4 months since I had a burst fracture of my L4, thankfully no surgery required. Either way, it was more a joke. And...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

Shorter stroke, bigger bore, better heads? But the biggest reason.....the distributor is in the front so you don't have to be an acrobat and contortionist to loosen or tighten the hold down. :D

I Chose the 383 Big Block

Might be worth asking a moderator to move this thread to the Big Block A-Body section, it's in the New Hemi Swap section right now. Probably going to get more feedback over there.

    Why? Honest question, just curious.

    383 vs 360 in an A 68 Cuda

I read it as "throttle control is more important". Like if he drove it with the 451 like he did the 340, all it did is paint lines on the pavement and get sideways. I could be wrong though.

anyone ever flow test 383 A body manifolds say vs 383-440 hp manifolds

I think the old 300hp crate motor exhaust test is worthless. The cam in the stock Magnum 5.9 (which is the same in the 300hp crate motor) is so small that there were only minor differences in power between them all. But the cam was already limiting the motor so any difference the exhaust made...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

Not really a valid argument since a 340 and 318 fit the same. A 383 and 360 take different parts to bolt in. Can't argue that the bigger bore and better heads make for some good potential. Just a matter of whether or not someone is going to ever need that potential.

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

I didn't follow through with it. I was tracking a 2014 from a truck on FB Marketplace and running numbers. I was going to offer him $700 and then swap a 6.4 cam into it and delete the MDS stuff which put me at about $2000 for the motor/harness/pcm with a car intake and FEAD. The rest was oil...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

Absolutely agree. I got it down to $4750. That was buying a $700 engine, headers, etc. and $750 for a cam and refresh on the motor. Motor must have come with a harness and PCM as that wasn't in the list. It also didn't include a fuel system, I must have planned to use the tank I built...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

LOL. Gotcha. I had to dial myself back on the G3 swap. I was all in and looking for a motor when I realized that the current 360 I have should be more than enough. It might never get the mileage or make the same HP (all out), but do I really need all that? In the end, I guess I am getting...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

I agree the later 340's weren't as good as the early ones. But some see all 340's in the same light and the '74 360 4BBL was an upgrade from the later ones based on rated HP and torque. No argument if we are talking factory stock. Give the 360 the same compression, cam and heads and it...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

I've struggled with this question myself. For some odd reason, there is soft spot in my heart for the 383 and I've always wanted a BB Duster. I was moving forward with a '73 Duster I was going to put a B motor in when my son wanted his first car back otherwise I would have had one of each to...

    68 Cuda 383 vs a 360

Then the '72 and '73 340 was a turd, too? 'Cuz the '74 360 4BBL that replaced it was rated better than that version of the 340. Not sure I would disagree, except that not all 360's were 2bbl. Unfortunately, an HP 360 was short lived and it wasn't long after '74 that the 4bbl on the 360...

New Project: 1968 Dart Build Thread

I remembered seeing a member with dual TB EFI on a TR and had to go look for him - @DJVCUDA is his screen name. Here is a thread asking about small blocks with a TR on the street, but might be helpful? Anybody running a 360 tunnel ram on the street?
  24. DionR

New Project: 1968 Dart Build Thread

Just a thought, but if you already have the tunnel ram seems like the dual Snipers would be the cool way to go. Seems like the EFI should keep it drivable? I know of people that have run dual 4bbl's on a tunnel ram and driven it daily, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone. But with the...

    E-68 400??

Ah man!! You dashed my dreams! Thanks for the info.
  26. DionR

    E-68 400??

Looks like in 1976 the standard 4bbl 400 (E-64) went to lean burn. That would be a clue on one of those motors. This motor has the distributor in it, wonder if the weights/springs and/or vacuum canister would give a clue.
  27. DionR

    E-68 400??

Thought about that, but wasn’t sure if they were still using it in 75. This one does not say HP on the pad, but it doesn’t have a date or serial number either. The data in here says “Late Introduction” for the HP 400 -...

    E-68 400??

Any way to tell an E-68 HP 400 from an E-64 standard 4bbl 400 after the motor has been removed from the car? I know the E-68 had dual exhaust, but without having access to the car it came out of hard to determine that. Any external visual clues? BTW, carb and air cleaner are missing too...

    What block is this?

Never even crossed my mind to do that. Not really a huge deal to me, probably not going to keep the motor since the car I was going to put it in is no longer mine. Just wanted to add a data point that one did come out of a car.
  30. DionR

    What block is this?

Don’t think anyone was having difficulty determining if it was a B or RB motor, I think the question was why doesn’t the casting number show up anywhere. I didn’t find much info despite the comment that info was out there, much like the OP (who started the thread 2 years ago). My only add to...
