    Thermostat Housing Won't Stop Leaking

I had a similar problem and here is how I fixed it. You will need access to a lathe for this. First I faced the gasket surface flat. Then I machined the gasket surface again another .004" but I stopped just after the bolt holes leaving a ring about .125" wide. You can see in the photo. It's the...

Engine bay heater line vacuum valve

OK, I just looked in my notes and for my '74 Dart I bought the B69VP valve. I did a test with the engine running in order to determine that was the correct one that I needed. You might want to do the same just to be sure. Ted

    thermostat housing leaks

Yes that's correct. As you can see in the picture the .005" step is near the inside so it crushes the gasket close to the thermostat. When I assembled it I used regular Permatex gasket sealer. The nasty brown stuff, and I let it sit for a few hours before I added fluid. Ted

    thermostat housing leaks

I had the very same problem with a chrome aftermarket housing. What I did was turn the gasket face smooth and then I put a .005" step in it so it would crush the gasket. It worked perfectly. The red line in the photo is the .005" tall area. If you have access to a lathe its an easy fix but just...

Downgrading from AC to just heat

X2 That's exactly what I did in my '74 Sport. Everything works just fine. Vacuum hose is pretty inexpensive. I put new hoses on everything for only a few bucks. It is a pain in the a$$ getting that heater box in and out so I put a new heater core in while it was out. Ted

    thermostat housing leak

I know that this is an old thread but here's an update. I used the aftermarket one pictured below and it leaked badly. The first thing that I did was take it to work and true up the gasket surface on the lathe. WOW this thing was way out! I reinstalled it and it leaked again but just a trickle...

    Heater control valve info needed

I need a vacuum operated heater control valve, and I'm looking at one of these from Bouchillon's. http://www.bpeusa.com/BPEheaterValve.asp The problem is that they want to know if the original one is open-no vacuum or closed-no vacuum, and I do not have one to compare it to. This is...

    thermostat housing leak

I had the same leak on my LD340 when I bought my Dart last year. When I took it apart over the winter I assumed it was because of the old thermostat housing so I bought a new chrome one too. Likely the same one you have. I'm just in the process of reassembling the engine and now I'm wondering...

I Need One of These... It Leaks!!

My car is also like 19's. It originaly was a/c equiped but it was removed, and I need a heater control valve also. The vacuum operated ones on the Bouchillon site look pretty good. Does anyone know if the original valve was normally open or closed? Thanks.............Ted

I just started to pull the a/c heater box out of my Dart last night. I was wondering if removing the radio and the glove box would make it easier. Thanks..............Ted
