    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

The cost to build the 46RH/RE for more horsepower is significantly more. The upgrades are basically the same as the 727. The disadvantage of the a500 style trans is the lack of upgradeable parts (lockup input shaft namely). So similar to the 904, 500hp would be pushing it for the a500 in my...

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

Yes the second digit is always the load rating from the manufacturer. The 42 is for a 6 cylinder jeep, the 44 came behind a 318.

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

Cope's RE manual shift valve body has 1-4 on the manual valve. There is no solenoid needed for the 3-4 shift as that is done manually on the shifter. The only solenoid that is needed with the CRT valve body is for lockup.

    Non ATF+4 in a A500 trans..?

Technically, yes it does matter as the manufacturer states that ATF+4 is not backwards compatible. So, you can start off with Dex III and switch to ATF+4, but not the other way around. As mentioned, ATF+4 is a semi-synthetic fluid with anti shudder additives for lockup torque converters. It is...

    727 ID

The 3 is likely an 8 and it would be 2892090, which is a B&C body, 383 2bbl, from 1969.

    1000hp 727 full manual build

Shutting the car off at speed isn't necessarily great, either. Do you have needle bearings throughout? With the engine shut off the geartrain is starved for lube oil.

    1000hp 727 full manual build

There are clean neutral valve bodies available for people who need neutral after the run as to not decelerate down on aluminum rods. Neutralizing an automatic transmission at speed with a stock drum is no bueno as you can explode it out of the transmission.

    1000hp 727 full manual build

I've been talking with miszny on some parts to achieve some better longevity with his 727, and we'll get there at some point if some parts would show up. I've learned quite bit over 25 years on what you can get away with and what you cannot in certain 727 combinations. 727 hard parts are fairly...

    Broken Transmission

This car was mistreated in 1st gear causing the sprag to roll. It appears the case is also broken, and if not, it will likely need another case anyway as once that inner sprag race is removed you'll probably find it dug into the back of the case as well. Not to mention what you have going on...

Recommend me a 727 rebuild kit

No need for kolene steels, in my opinion. I can certainly help you out with what you need.

Digging for info - front drum explosion on 727s

The high gear drum did not explode then. The broken extension housing and case were damaged due to the driveshaft coming out.

Digging for info - front drum explosion on 727s

Do you know which part failed, or exploded as you say? I absolutely would not shift a 727 with stock drums to almost 8k rpm.

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

Not so much with the 42/44 stuff as that will all interchange with each other, although I do believe the 42 may have had 3 pinion planetaries front and rear, so no reason to go from 4 pinion to 3. The 1-3 portion of the 42/44 trans is all very similar to the 999 but the majority of the parts...

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

Modern friction materials can run in any fluid without issue. I would not poor ATF+4 into a 50+ year old transmission that has never been rebuilt. The standard fluid we use is DexIII on a basic, mild street strip build.

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

We offer machined pressure plates to thinner thicknesses, but not stepped. I've removed several broken stepped pressure plates. We offer this mainly for the 727 and RE/RH transmissions when installing more than 6 friction discs. I am more inclined to use a thinner snap ring or machine the...

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

A 999 is a lockup 904 with a rigid wide 2nd gear band, 5 disc high gear drum, lockup pump, and lockup input shaft. So the answer is, no, you cannot put lockup 999 parts in a non lockup 904. You can however put the 2.74 low gear set from a 998/999 into your 904 if you take the front planetary...

    46 re transmission

Were the overdrive direct clutches replaced? If so, did the thickness of the clutches and steels match what was replaced? Are there enough clutches and steels installed? If the overdrive direct clutch stack is not correct, the transmission will not go into reverse.

    727 grinding at idle

The output shaft isn't turning at idle. Is it more of a buzz noise? I've seen that quite often with tci valve bodies.

    Auto trans Question

No, it won't. The V10 and Cummins have a different bell housing pattern than small the gas engines. You'd need a 46RH transmission as that has the small block bell housing pattern.

    Always wondered what happened here…..

I've seen the high gear return springs collapse and break apart like that with clean neutral valve bodies and that tcs piston. For clean neutral applications I use a new piston with the posts and the tcs chrome springs.

    Speedometer Gear Seal

It shouldn't fit tight. Can you post a pic of the speedometer housing.

    Speedometer Gear Seal

The seal bottoms out into the speedometer housing with the lip facing down, and the c-clip goes on top of it. Use an appropriate sized 1/4" socket to push them in.
