    You should have about 12v cranking because the BR is grounding out, and 8 to 9v running at the coil.

    Had the same problem. Check the reluctor to pickup gap inside the distributor. Use a brass feeler gauge and set the gap to .008, make sure it's clean and not rusty.

    My sun didn't work also with MSD. Had to buy a MSD tach adapt if I remember. Last 10 years I have been using a auto meter without my tach adapt.

    Im pretty sure there is one other company marketing them but from what I have read and heard year one is the best quality, they use M&M I think out of the Chicago area. Try classic ind but be careful if you see one half the price it's probably not as good as the YO harness.

    Stock Distributor and Coil?

    I would use the MSD ballast resistor it's a nice heavy duty unit and it's .8 ohms so it will give more juice to the coil and plugs. As long as your ecu is a stock or good part store replacement it should be fine. May have to recurve your distributor to get the most out of it

    Make sure you use a few spacers/washers on the back of the ballast to space it away from the firewall. This will allow it to run cooler and posibly last longer.

    I would use a regular one that will have a tendancy to charge closer to 14 or a bit over when car is first started and have the ability to regulate down to 13.5v or even lower say on a hot day on the expressway .

    My 360 with MSD 6al and SS coil is at .045 if you go to NGK site they state the regular plugs should not be gaped more than .045 if you want to run more you need a race plug. Opening up a standard plug much more than .045 will cause the electrode to not be squared up to the strap.

    I had the same problem, mine was the reluctor to pickup gap in the distributor. It should be right about .008 checked with a brass feeler gauge. Mine was at .022 .

    Ask for a 89 toyota 4 runner I believe. That's what I have and it puts out a little over 14v at idle and has the correct pully. I would just get one from autozone with a lifetime warranty I've gone through two in about 14 years and 10k, don't know if it's the underhood heat or the rpms I run...

    I use a alt out of a 89 toyota 4 runner basicly a denso that you see in summit for big bucks. I modified a A/C alternator bracket. Just got a old one from the JY but it didn't last long so went to autozone and got a reman for $60 with a lifetime warranty on my second or third one in 14 years...

    They are pretty far off and even if you upgrade to the solid state board they still react slow due to the heavy movements.

    MSD distributor issues

    Only problems I have had with the distributor itself is the screws for the rotor were loose causing the rotor to be cocked. Other problem is the little carbon ball in the center of the cap wears out of falls out altogether. Summit has a house brand black MSD cap for cheaper that works just fine.

    What type of ecu? What ignition? The voltage to the coil sounds ok when it's cranking. Check to make sure your reluctor to pickup gap is right about .008.

    Try a different ballast resistor. Most of the replacements are 1.5 Ohm and will cut voltage to the cool. You want about 7 to 9volts at the coil at idle.

    You will have to upgrade the wiring bulkhead if you think you need 100 amp. Are you running a big stereo amp and extra lighting?
