    I think anything you paint fast reflects your lack of care. Usually shows in the quality. Doesn't have anything to do with the color imo :)

    If you don't want to or lack the funds for re-chroming, then it's really your personal preference on whether to clean them up as best as possible or paint them. Tossing my hat in the pot, my own personal preference would be either to find some used ones at a decent price via FABO or Craigslists...
