I think your wiring is right. I think the regulator is bad or not grounded well. If the car is running fine makes me think there is nothing wrong with the distributor wiring. Do what 67dart273 is saying even if he sounds like he's going to bite your head off lol!

I take it you have the field wire from the alternator to the field side of the voltage regulator hooked up to right? And a good ground wire from the motor to the firewall? I wonder if the new voltage regulator is bad.

Don't get me wrong, I would love my fastback to be filled like a jewel case with amps, speakers, crossovers, etc. I just need a better mount then that cheep plastic thing, or hide it in the glovebox.

google "underdash stereo mount" and you will see a few. My Barracuda had one in it when I bought it but I couldn't stand how it looked out of place. It looked just like this $18 amazon unit. I pulled it out and now am tuneless.
