    Head Lights

Ha! He's obviously trying to defuse a Farsi IED with a 70's Mr Coffee maker as the trigger, in that case its the green wire... B-17! What a maroon!

    fixing am radio?

I know very little about electronics but was able to fix all the gauges in my 2005 GMC, my samsung Galaxy S3, and my xbox 360 because of the huge amount of videos on youtube on those subjects. Unfortunately guys who know how to fix old AM car radios must not know how to make and post videos to...

    HEI in a Mopar?

I put one of the $50 Ebay dizzys on my 68 and a Pertronix blaster 2 coil I think was $40. The only thing I did with the wiring was to "shunt" inside the ballast resistor as I kind of like the factory look. Gapped the plugs out to .045. and it runs great. Also with the ballast shunted I also used...

    Elelctric cars are boring right??

Carter was actually a pioneer in the nuclear navy. He lead a response team to one of the worst nuclear accidents of his time. I don't know if that's what turned him or what but he was out of the navy before they saw their long success with nuclear power to run he peanut farm.

    Elelctric cars are boring right??

I worked for 11 years in the nuclear power industry in the Navy. Modern nuclear power is very safe, and the waste is nothing compared to other industrial waste. You can run a reactor for 20 years and then store all the waste generated in a swimming pool on site. The Japan reactor was a very old...

    Elelctric cars are boring right??

67dart273 is right. That's a COAL powered car! While natural gas may be a gasoline replacement electric will not. Leave the electricity to power stationary objects and leave the mobile stuff powered by something that actually has huge energy stored within it, fossil fuels. If every car were...

    Ballast resistor

Here is a pic of a stock 67 barracuda. It's real simple, starter relay, ballast resistor, voltage regulator, then a points distributor and regular coil.

    Ballast resistor

Your new harness should have a 2 wires to connect to a ballast resistor. It should be mounted just under the seam of the windshield cowl and the firewall as far to the left as it will go until it's basically up against the fender. Look for a bolt or a single hole where a bolt will hold it to the...

    choke wiring again

Ok i looked again at the alternator and it isn't a 2nd spade like I thought but just a plate that must be grounded to the body like you described. The coil isn't getting all the time 12v from the battery, it is just bypassing the ballast resistor so it gets 12 in start or run. So I will check...

    choke wiring again

Ok so I did a search and saw the previous responses on this. My car is now a bit different then stock. I have a pertronics style electronic conversion so my ballast resistor has a shunt so the coil gets 12v all the time. I also have the alternator wired normal 1968 with one field but there is an...

    spark plug heat range questions.

Does it run as good on the carb vac? if it idles well but runs bad then see what the carb vac is giving you for timing at idle and compare that to what manifold vac is giving you for timing at idle. Adjust your initial timing so that with the manifold port you have the spot where it idles good...

    help w/01 Impala nightmare

I got a 2007 Impala 9c1 police car for my daughter. It is pretty much wired the same as a non-police car with a few heavy gage extra terminals for add ons. You right, the body computer is what does all the different things, at least on a 2007. On mine the dome lights were disabled, all the...

    Bouncing Speedometer

Mine was bouncing more at lower speeds but still some at higher. It wasn't the cable but the bushing in the gauge had worn and the arms were rubbing as they circled the bottom. I don't know the proper terms. I was able to clean it up and get a little more clearance and it's better but not perfect.

    Let's Talk 'Ballast Resistors'

on the diagram I have it looks like the dk blue w/tracer goes to the ignition and the brown goes to the wiper switch? Oh wait, wrong brown! I see it now. So In start it sends 12v down the brown but in run that lead is basically a deadhead off the regulator and the regulator give less then 12 to...

    Let's Talk 'Ballast Resistors'

I have a question on this as well. On my 68 it has 2 posts but there are 2 wires going to each post. I see that one is to reduce voltage to the points but what is the other? I was going to use a hei style dist with separate coil and was redoing some of the wiring harness so thought I would just...

    Fusible link melted!

Gold duster, I think Bill is talking to me. For your question I think a 25 amp breaker is pretty small. Isn't your alternator putting out up to 40 amps? All of it is going through that breaker. I would just try pulling it out or short it's posts and see if it runs better. Just don't let your...

    Fusible link melted!

I wish somebody had a diagram of how to build a new a body motor harness correctly. I mean guage, wire lengths, connectors, etc. I don't want stock looking, I want up to date. I do love how simple it is at least, I wouldn't dream of trying to re-wire my 95 Grand Cherokee limited!

    Fusible link melted!

My car has no current problems, I'm just cleaning up the engine bay and figured I'd do underhood part of this now. The shunt bypass seems like a good idea too, just run a whole new 10 gauge wire around the ammeter?

    Fusible link melted!

Question, do you have to bypass the ammeter in the above drawing? Could you do everything but bypass it? Seems like if you are not adding anything to the underdash load just leaving in place would be fine. You still get both wires sharing the underdash load and any extra big loads could just be...

    HID Headlight conversion

what always gets me about these threads is the sudden major concern for the absolute letter of the law. No where else will you see such a concern for other folks on the road. Throw a 800 hp hemi in your dart with drum brakes, heck run it on nirtomethane! man that's cool. The federal govenment...

    HID Headlight conversion

The link for the xe7 and xe7r is something about UFOs. I guess they must be out of this world for the price! I also wouldn't go with the HID bulb in the H4 lense w/o the projector to focus the beam. A simple H4 conversion and harness is the way to go for good legal light w/o spending $1000...

HEI installed not charging, need help!

I think he still has the 69 alternator. I'm sure the distributor he is talking about is the one from the other thread on cheap HEI style. Not a true HEI with the coil in the cap, but the one with the HEI guts. It is funny we are speculating when Darc1722 you could just tell us. Now it's like...

HEI installed not charging, need help!

I think your wiring is right. I think the regulator is bad or not grounded well. If the car is running fine makes me think there is nothing wrong with the distributor wiring. Do what 67dart273 is saying even if he sounds like he's going to bite your head off lol!
  24. Hersbird

HEI installed not charging, need help!

I take it you have the field wire from the alternator to the field side of the voltage regulator hooked up to right? And a good ground wire from the motor to the firewall? I wonder if the new voltage regulator is bad.

Recommendations for a car stereo set-up?

Don't get me wrong, I would love my fastback to be filled like a jewel case with amps, speakers, crossovers, etc. I just need a better mount then that cheep plastic thing, or hide it in the glovebox.

Recommendations for a car stereo set-up?

google "underdash stereo mount" and you will see a few. My Barracuda had one in it when I bought it but I couldn't stand how it looked out of place. It looked just like this $18 amazon unit. I pulled it out and now am tuneless.

Anyone tried one of these HEI Distributors?

oh wait you are talking about the original distributor on this thread. in that case wire as above but also remember you need the right kind of coil.

Anyone tried one of these HEI Distributors?

you said "dizzy wires to coil" there should be only one wire from the distributor right? Are you still trying to use the factory wires? just do it how KitCarlson said above.

    Optima battery on sale

I think I saw an article talking about reliability of these. The bottom line was chargers that weren't designed to charge them. They were fine if you kept then charged but if you left something on completely draining the battery, then hooking up your 30 year old charger sometimes it wouldn't...

Anyone tried one of these HEI Distributors?

So no reported failures but it's still junk, and I still say if it were from Canada you would buy 2 and build one into an altar on you fireplace.
