Car shifted into gear when in park...

I recently got the 440 and 727 installed in my Barracuda. It's not running yet, but as I was installing the driveshaft I discovered that it wouldn't go all the way into park. Fought it for a while and finally looked at all the parts. Trans is a '67, but due to the shifter I'm running (late 70s...

Small to large bolt pattern swap

There is no direct fit rotor, but from appearances the SSBC rotor looks like a 65-67 Mustang piece with a spacer for the bearings, which are the same, but the offset is slightly different. The calipers used are the same casting, but machined differently. The reason this is not a popular swap...

3 different years, same transmission, which one should I use?

If the 66 trans is one that originally came behind a 273 four barrel, use it. Otherwise it won't matter much.

    4 speed conversion

You only have to cut the end of the input shaft off if the hole was not drilled all the way. Cranks came three ways: Not drilled (actually not deep enough, there is a hole in all of them) Drilled, but not finish reamed Finish reamed to the proper size NAPA has a pilot bushing for the...

    neutral safety switch

I don't think there's a two-prong switch, only single (nuetral safety only) and three prong (NSS and backup lights). If you don't have the one that matches the comb in the transmission it won't work (or so I've been told - never tried it).

    too low shift points

Where does it shift if you are wide open? I don't remember the correct light throttle shift points, but I don't think you're that far off.

Power limits of the 7 1/4 suregrip?

I can tell you that a 7-1/4 cannot reliably handle the power of a stock 273 four barrel with a four speed (don't ask me how I know).

    help please,4 speed conversion qusetions

Everything will fit, IF it really is an a-body four speed and wasn't cobbled into the Dart. The 130-tooth flywheel is NOT the big one, it's the middle-sized one (I'll let you pull the 143-tooth flywheel out of my son's Dart next time...........). Also make sure the four speed is not an...

    cornering question

My son's Barracuda is more street car than race car (hence the lack of power compared to other CP entries). It was his daily driver in high school and most of his first year of college. And, yes you had one post in this thread and it was quite condescending on the idea of making a Mopar...

    cornering question

I think you missed the point of my son's 383 Barracuda. It handles well enough to compete in Solo II. If it lacks anything, it's horsepower as the 383 is relatively mild. There are simple things to do to get your Barracuda to handle well. The first thing to do is to ditch the 60s technology...

    cornering question

Handling is easy with a big block a-body. Kraby posted the recipe. Here's the proof.

    Will my original 66' 273 904 tranny work my my 69' 340?

Yes, the trans will bolt up and work fine. I can't advise you in regards to mods to it to last behind the 340, though.

    can 3:23 s Smoke?

    3.23s won't hold my stock 340 (or my son's stock 440).

    Removing Console Auto Shifter

Unscrew the knob. The button screws onto the mechanism. When assembled properly the screw should be facing directly rearward.

    No teeth left??

    The loose starter caused it.

    Would It Fit?

I doubt they would fit and the 7-1/4 axles are so weak it wouldn't be worth it anyway. I think the splines are quite a bit smaller. That was where my 7-1/4 failed in my 66 Commando four speed Barracuda.

    Pressure Plate rattle......

You might have a pressure plate with "rollers". These are centrifugal weights that rattle around at lower RPM and add pressure higher.

    Which UJs?

7260 = 2-1/8" 7290 = 2-5/8" The text states to measure the inside of the yoke.

    rear transmission shaft

Two inches is an inch and a quarter too much. You need a longer driveshaft.
  22. J

    rear transmission shaft

You didn't answer my question. Push the driveshaft ALL THE WAY into the transmission and tell me how much distance there is between the REAR u-joint and REAR END YOKE.
  23. J

    rear transmission shaft

There shouldn't be much play. You also need to have quite a bit spline engagement. How much distance from the rear u-joint to the differential yoke with the driveshaft pushed all the way into the transmission?
