    Valve lifter question.

    Bill, I had lifter noise once warmed and it turns out that the rockers were installed backwards...each cylinder should have a left and a right and they are slightly offset. Once it was corrected the noise went completely away. John

    Good point. There is some visable wear on the valve tip where it meets the rocker. Not sure if the valve is opening or closing enough. I do have a lot of hydrocarbons which could be caused by this. This fall I plan to pull the heads and have them freshened up.

    Well guys....the tick is gone and it was due to the rockers being installed incorrectly. Here is what the notes read, cyl 8 had 2 left rockers, cyl 4 were reversed, cyl 2 had 2 right rockers and cyl 3 were reversed. It's a wonder the vehicle ran as well as it did. Technician also noted...

    I also posted on Moparstyle and it was also explained that you must have LH and RH per cylinder.

    Perhaps they are referring to left or right orientation like you mentioned. Thanks for all the response and pic...I now have a better understanding.

    Thanks for the quick response. My car also has intermittant exhaust smoke which is blue in color and smells more like gas then oil...could this be caused by the rockers being installed incorrectly? The shop is hesitant to pull the heads because they feel that this could perhaps fix my tick...
