Soft brakes after rear disc install

I don't mess with power brakes at all on old Mopars.....but I think your issue may be the piston in the MC is starting too far in. You are not uncovering the rear port to feed the fluid into the rear piston area. Is there an adjustment somewhere to shorten the pushrod? That 1/4" metal piece may...

Brake rotors for KH factory brakes made by Centric - critical review

The 2 cars I drive a lot are a 68 cuda and 64 Valiant. Drivers NOT show cars. I plumbed them eliminating the factory distribution valve. (Dual MC conversion on the 64) If I have a leak somewhere, it is pretty obvious without a red light telling me so. I run the front brake MC output to a brass...

    Doctor Diff Master Cylinder

I've wondered about things like that. If he is selling these under his brand, they are most likely new and sourced from Asia. I dealt with Chinese-sourced parts in the last 15 years of my career and dealt with QC issues CONSTANTLY. My opinion is they should last a pretty long time. I'm just...

Power Disc Brake Master Cylinder to Manuel setup

A 74 A-body power brake MC is the go-to part for manual disc brakes so you're good there. All you need is a stock manual brake push rod. The Dr Diff adjustable one is good but I got mine from Mancini Racing. It's patterned from the old Direct Connection part. One more thing, you MUST make sure...

Questions on Liberty Rear disc on 8-3/4 per MoparAction Articles

I remember reading the articles when they were originally published in the magazine. One thing that jumped out to me was the machining required to bring the thickness down to 0.100. OK, not so bad if the bracket is steel but it is cast iron. A thin cast iron section is not a good thing when...

Looking for master cylinder suggestions on somewhat unique setup

Since Ehrenberg was brought up....he always recommends DOT5 fluid and that's what I've been using in my old junks for a long time. For cars that don't get driven consistently, the advantage is it doesn't absorb moisture resulting in less corrosion inside. And if it does leak, it won't damage the...

    Changing to BBP. Brake questions

Yeah but the parking brake cable area attaches differently. You MUST match the backing plates to the brake width. I think there are 3 different offsets? For instance if you want 10" X 2-1/2" rear brakes, you need the backing plates for that combo. My personal opinion is 11" drums add a LOT of...

Right Stuff Detailing brake kit for 64 Valiant?

That looks to be a pretty comprehensive kit. The MC will bolt directly to the firewall. Looks like there is an adjustable push rod included so that will work. Plumb the adjustable prop valve in the line going to the rear. I mount mine on the frame rail in the firewall vicinity. I also...

9” drum brake retainer clips on assembly line, OEM?

One thing to consider changing to BBP is that it's not just the brakes. You must source wheels and probably tires too. Yeah wheel selection is better with BBP but once you are committed, there's no going back. I went BBP on my 68 cuda using 73-75 style front discs and shortened C-body axles and...

9” drum brake retainer clips on assembly line, OEM?

Sounds like you are confusing things. If you just want to remove the drum to inspect shoes, brake cylinder, and hardware; then remove the dust cap, cotter pin, stamped retainer, nut, washer, outer bearing and carefully slide the drum off. Be careful not to damage the inner grease seal. The drum...

    drums pulling to the right

Sounds like you need to pull both front drums and check to see if the primary and secondary shoes are installed correctly. Then when reinstalling the drums, adjust the shoes in-out so there is equal drag side to side. Pushing on the brake pedal with the drums on, wheels off, will center each...

Measuring offset for Wilwood rear disk brakes - help

Are your axles flanges redrilled to 4.5 BP? A-body 4.5 B.P. flanges are thinner than factory 4.5 B.P. axles.

64 (Canadian) Valiant Signet (aka Dart GT) front disc brake conversion

Regarding your rear brakes: Check the rear flex hose. A few years back i helped a coworker get his 73 340 Dart Sport back on the road. We couldn't get any brake fluid at the front calipers. After disassembling the distribution/safety block and all that I finally discovered that both front brake...

1966 Valiant - Power or manual disk brakes?

The go to MC is a 73-75 A body power disc brake but run manually. If that Raybestos is for that application then you are good. There is no need to run power brakes.

    Stop That Rusty Look

I used that RPM stuff on various parts but it doesn't hold up. Looks good for a short while but then rusts. May work better in a milder climate. I paint mine cast iron and use DOT 5 fluid that doesn't harm paint.

Front Drum Brake Help - 68 Barracuda

Referencing my earlier post. I have direct experience on a 2003 Neon I had. It had rear drums that did not have that double wall. It allowed a direct path for water to intrude into the brake internals. One time I was driving home from work, 20 miles to go, and I started hearing a terrible noise...

Front Drum Brake Help - 68 Barracuda

Side-by-side, it looks like the important dimensions match up with your old one. Pad width, overall height, etc. The double wall on the original allows for better exclusion of water because it creates a better labyrinth. The lip on the backing plate centered in between the 2 walls but now you...

    Brake line clip position

Actually, if you bought preformed lines just put them on the car and look for the holes in the frame rails near where they are routed. If will become pretty obvious where they go. If you have any questions after, post again. The only one I can easily get to on my 68 is the last fuel line clip on...

what do i need to buy to put new brakes in?

Unless you have a physical limitation, power brakes are not necessary on an A-body. It adds nothing to stopping power. You definitely need a new MC. Do you have 4 wheel drums or front discs? If you're not sure pictures of a front brake with the wheel off would help identify what you have. If you...

    missmatched brakes 64 gt

Did you actually drive the car yet with those brakes? A smaller diameter wheel cylinder in the rear would definitely help and be totally undetectable. I believe what you are looking for is 7/8" (22.2mm) diameter. (Looking at a 1978 FSM, you most likely have 15/16" [23.8mm] now) I did this on my...

    leaking master cylinder cap.

Lots of good ideas already mentioned like flattening the mating surface of the MC with a file. As a last resort, maybe you could get a second gasket and cut it apart leaving a half inch or so around the circumference. Use that to double up the clamping area. You might try contacting the...

1966 Dart single master cylinder, trick to remove?

I've done it both ways but it is far easier to pull up on the brake pedal from inside the car. This pops the grommet right out of the MC bore. I think I had to remove the brake light switch first to allow the pedal to come up.

    Early A brake shoe interchange?

Probably best answered by a European resident. @65dartcharger Were Darts available for sale in Spain in 1963? I can't imagine brakes would be different whether they were imported or not. Assuming you would have to order these locally and then pick them up, can you remove a pair from your car...

    76 caliper rub on bracket

It very well could be that your new calipers are made from NEW castings, not rebuilt originals. If true, then no doubt the new calipers are Asian sourced and not quite exact replicas. There probably is enough material to grind some iron away to provide clearance.

    1970 Valiant Disc Brake Conversion

I know you want your kid to be safe so do NOT use the 9" knuckles (spindles) Also, unless you have a physical disability, there is no need for power brakes on an A body. With patience, you can piece together a Kelsey Hayes factory setup. Use a 73-75 A body power brake MC but run it manually.
