    DragRace Wheels

Measure the thickness of the wheel where the lug goes through and find a shank length just a bit shorter. Not sure if they factor in the washer thickness. But keep the shank as long as possible without bottoming out on the brake drum or rotor.

    DragRace Wheels

I believe it boils down to a requirement that the wheel stud engage at least its diameter into the lug head. (1/2" studs engage the lug 1/2" past the wheel face). Many race wheels are thicker so you'll need longer than OEM studs to extend past the wheel surface. Open face lugs allow tech to...

Should I change gears or not?

Don't forget about the possible need to change your speedometer gear if there is any change in gear ratio and/or tire height.

    Is Bigger always Better?

Too many variables for a formula. More is better here, but the rubber compound is VERY important for traction as well. Even that varies with application - car weight, auto/stick, tire size rules, etc. Suspension has to be right to make the amount & compound of rubber on the ground to it's full...

    15x10 fitment on non-tubbed Duster

It might be doable, but you'd have to build the rear housing "into" the wheels. Seems like .75" narrower per side than OEM would be the housing width (1.5" overall because my wheels have .75 more offset than the Keystones.). Not sure if my B/E body rear drum brakes will affect your measurements...

I guess i'm not going racing.....

Tires deteriorate even if the look good and no cracks. Many years ago I had a "new" 16" trailer radial that I stored inside for 6-7 years before I actually had to use it as a spare. It looked fine. I installed on the trailer for the first time and within 1,000 miles, the tread peeled off like a...

Post your Drag wheels and tire combos!

Holeshot Penta Star wheels. 15"x4" front with 27" Hoosier front tires and 15"x10" rears with Hoosier 9"x30" lightweight radial slicks. 3-piece wheels on the car. Wheel photo is their "front only" one piece version.

Bogart wheels New aluminum steelie clones

Likely for FAST class cars! As "racing wheels", they are probably not legal or strong enough for every day (ab)use. Every little bit helps, and they can hide the saved weight in back to maintain minimum legal race weight.....where it will do the most good.

    Drag tire question

I can't say for sure. But I did get some that were 7260-1330 or 1310. 7260-7290 seems like it would be more popular.
  12. Locomotion

    Drag tire question

Yes, they are stronger because the grease fitting hole in the main body actually compromises its strength and is a potential starting point for a crack. It's OK for every day use. IMO the best u-joints are solid, pre-greased by Spicer.
  13. Locomotion

    Drag tire question

"IF" your new u-joints have grease fittings, are they in the cap or in between the caps? If they are in between the caps (in the u-joint body), they should be "in compression" - (Slip yoke ears should be turning towards the fitting and rear driveshaft yoke ears should too.) Hope that makes...
  14. Locomotion

    Drag tire question

Make sure that your driveshaft and u-joints are in VERY good shape. That might be your weakest link. Wheel studs might be next. I prefer Spicer solid u-joints. A driveshaft loop couldn't hurt either. But frame connectors will help minimize flex and body cracks even with OEM engines that are...

Demon, Duster, Dart Sport wheel combos

I run Holeshot Wheels. They have a wide variety of styles to choose from and are a good balance of lightweight & strength. But they are not street legal. Their 3 piece construction allows for more offset options and if a wheel should get damaged or the offset needs to be changed, it can be done...

    Tire Load Rating

Naturally, the higher the load rating, the more weight a tire can support and handle more abuse, like braking, cornering, etc.. But even with the lowest rating, 4 of those tires (4 x 1279) will support more than the actual weight of your car and have a safety margin to boot. I always try to...

    hoosier 27x4.5 front runner

I have their 28", but on 3.5 - 4" rims and race car only. They are not street legal, will wear out fasterand can get you in trouble if roads are rough or wet. Just sayin. If it was once or twice a year on the street, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    Custom wheels similar to Centerlines?

Holeshot Wheels in Bunnell, FL has something similar and can provide a wide variety of widths, offsets, bolt patterns, etc. But you didn't say if they are for racing or street use. These are not street legal units. http://holeshotwheels.com/custom-wheel-gallery/hole-shot-solid/

28" Tire to rocker clearance - Duster

I've used custom made 1/4" plates, in between the front eye mount and the surface it bolts to, to move everything back a bit. But I would feel uncomfortable to use any more than 1/4". As noted, production tolerences leave a lot to be desired so clearances from car-to-car as well as on the...

    Balanced tires...

I'm normally a stickler for detail. I had a trailer tire repaired once and a new one mounted once at this particular local tire place. Both times they casually said that they normally don't do it, you don't feel it and they don't need it! I insisted, and they did. Well, of course you don't...

15x10 wheels with out mini tub

I have a 3/4" offset spring kit installed, it has 15"x10" wide Holeshot Pentastar wheels with a 30" tall x 9" tread Hoosier radial slick. (Don't know the actual section width.) Inner fender lip and wheel wells, front and rear, are well massaged.

    No traction

As pointed out, even if they appear and feel ok, they have an old school compound that has gotten old. They have deteriorated even if you don't see it. I put a never used 8 year old spare 16" trailer tire on my 26' Pace. I used the brand previously with no problems. It looked fine and was stored...
  24. Locomotion

    wider tire and traction

As far as slicks go, most Stock racers that are limited to a 9" slick use a 10" rim. This allows you to use more air pressure while still maintaining a full-width footprint and not wadding-up the sidewalls, which is not good. Of course, each application is different and you have to experiment...

    Light Weight Wheels

Holeshot has a wide variety of styles and offset. They are a "drag only" wheel, but some people have cautiously run them on the street. In some cases, a thicker center and/or rim halves can be special ordered. They have even lighter 1-piece fronts but they are more expensive...

    new tires=bad gas mileage

Since the taller tires actually reduce the gear ratio, like going from a 3.23 to a 2.94, it can hurt mileage in stop-n-go traffic because the engine torque isn't working as efficiently with less overall gear. You may also be pushing down on the pedal more to get it going like it use to. The...

There are a lot of variables, like fender fitment, front end alignment, wheel offset, front end height, tire width, possible frame "tweaks", etc. Do you have issues on both sides? Wheel well openings are similar up front and I have 28" Hoosiers drag fronts on the front of my Dart Sport. Had to...

I have a 94" circumference Hoosier 9" radial on my Dart Sport and the front and rear lower ends of the wheelwell opening are cut for clearance. (That works out to about 29.5".) But I don't remember how much they were cut. When you do clearance them, remember that particularly bias ply slicks...

10 year old tires ok for highway driving?

I had original Load Range E tires on my 2004 dually and use it only on the highways to go racing.
