Tips on installing rubber front spring eye bushings

Consider going to a suspension shop, I left my springs for bushings but they installed the wrong size so I went back and they said "sorry, we'll fix it". The guy took my springs into his shop and came back about 2 minutes later with the right bushings installed. I didn't see how he did it but I...

    1972 Upper Control arm question..

I can do this for you tomorrow. From what I remember, the holes where the bushings press in are similar but there is a separate sleeve that Chrysler added to one of them- can't remember front or back- that makes the mounting look different. I also remember discussion on this forum where the...

    Rear leaf spring bushings

Most decent size towns have a business that rebuilds springs. I took mine into such a place and they slid new bushings in while I waited. Easy as pie and quite inexpensive. They also provided clamps that wrap around the spring leaves that I installed myself.

Anyone know of a good alignment shop in Denver?

Thanks for the 'heads up' grimreaper and the recommendation MOPEkid. I Googled Elroy's and found they are just off Colfax at 1470 Chase St. zip 80214. Tel (303) 231 9320. I'll call them tomorrow and see if they want to look under a '71 Swinger. I still have to get the car registered so it may be...

    Moving Rear End Back 1"

My local spring shop said it was ok to drill a new hole 1" back from the stock hole on the main leaf (only) and reassemble the spring(s). This effectively moved the rear back 1". I now have about 1.5" from the tire to the rocker lip. Tires are 275-60/15. Gas tank gets pretty close to the rear...

Cut some metal off an old car/truck. Hood or trunk lid works good. Avoid modern cars; the single sided zinc coatings don't weld so good.

    71 duster front end help

I had a problem like this. Turned out the aftermarket pitman arm had no master spline and could be clocked anywhere. Made a 'one tooth' correction and bingo, tie rod ends had equal thread exposure.

    Stumped - need help!

Are the numbers on the bars toward the back? Left and right sides mixed up? Sockets in the cross member rotating due to corrosion? Bars installed with the LCA all the way down? The same bars showed normal ride height before the rebuild?

leaf spring location after moving inboard

Can't you just bolt your old spring hangers in and measure over to the new location? If it was done properly, the dimension will be the same for the front spring hanger and the rear spring hanger (both sides). Then, weld each perch to the rear end this much closer toward the center of the car.

rear end spring perch location ?

I'm not quite following what you want to do but would only caution that if the spring moves back, the angle of the rear shackles may become too severe requiring a similar repositioning of the rear shackle mount on the body.

    Steering wheel upside down...

Just to help anyone with a similar problem... Turns out the pitman arm wasn't clocked properly as Dano suggested. The Firm Feel pitman arm doesn't have a master spline and I had it a couple of teeth off. Because the 'fast ratio' pitman arm was longer than standard, it allowed the wheels to turn...

    Steering wheel upside down...

Thanks for all the comments on my original post. Thought I'd provide a follow up for anyone in the future performing a 'search' for steering wheel, column, coupler or roll pin. I ended up getting the coupler rebuild kit from ebay and pulling the column. I painted the coupler and stopped there...

    Steering wheel upside down...

Thanks everyone for your input. I have a '74 K member ('71 car) and Firm Feel power steering box and fast ratio pitman/idler arms. (All parts are 'new' to the car.) When I crank all the way to the right, the nub on the right spindle stops rotation against the lower control arm. When...

    Steering wheel upside down...

I rebuilt the front end on my '71 Dart Swinger. Got everything back together and the 3-spoke steering wheel seems upside down to me. Seems it would be easier to read the instruments if one spoke was pointed down instead of straight up. Will the steering wheel spline allow it to be rotated 180...

    mini tub questions

Do a search and you will find where people have found a trick way to modify the rear seat back by cutting out a section of each bottom corner, swapping the pieces side to side and welding them back in. I found this recommendation here and it worked great.

    Locating sway-bar tabs

I made a fixture that will locate sway bar tabs on lower control arms that don't have tabs to the stock '73-'76 locations. You'd have to make the tabs and weld them on. If you (or anyone) else is interested in borrowing, PM me.

    Spring Relocation Dimensions

I bought a spring relocate kit from a member; It didn't come with the tubes for the rear shackles. (Car is '71 Swinger.) Here's what worked for me... I took one rear spring bracket and centered a 3/16” fender washer over the hole on each side, brazed them in place then opened up the holes so...

    Rear Shock Mount

Roger I modified my lower shock attachment plates last weekend. PM me your email address if you want and I'll send you a picture- Can't seem to load a photo here. I did 1" just like you. I cut the ear with the shock bolt on it and slid it 1" forward and welded it back on. I expect it will...

Update on new PST 1.03 Torsion bars.

If your lower control arm bushings are rubber, wouldn't it be a good idea to unscrew the nut on the pivot bolt and let it turn a little then retighten so as to keep from tearing the rubber? I've been thinking of getting some bigger bars but worry about stiffening the suspension too much. I take...

    borgeson u joint

You have 5/8" 36 spline on your PS box. Steering shaft is 3/4 dia. The spline is specific to Mopar. Don't get stuck with the 36 tooth unit intended for Vega steering box like I did. Doesn't work.

    Lower Control Arms

I have a '73 K-frame set up. I didn't care for the way the tabs were welded to the LCA. I figured I'd sell the '73 LCA and weld new, slightly larger and stronger tabs to an older LCA that didn't have tabs and made fixtures for the '73 tab locations. I still have the LH and RH fixtures if anyone...

Move Rear Axle Back with Coronet Spring?

I'm about to relocate my springs inboard and wondered about moving the rear back at the same time to facilitate tire fitment. Found TheSuspensionKing.com on the net and notice the 66-72 Coronet spring center bolt is an inch more toward the back. The spring is also an inch longer but the rear...

Best way to remove upper ball joint

I'd recommend getting the right socket like grumpscreature says but would recommend against the impact gun- tends to strip the threads. I made a fixture that held the A arm. I shoved it into the receiver socket (trailer hitch) on the back of my truck and used about a six foot cheater bar to...

    Upper Control Arm Bushing Retainer

Removed UCA bushings some time ago and am installing new ones now. There's a sleeve that presses on the backside of one of the bushings presumably to lock it in place more securely. I don't remember if the sleeve is for the bushing toward the front or rear of the car. Anyone know?
