Is There Supposed To Be A Fiber Washer/Spacer Here? -727

Thanks for the reply! I just finished reading a couple more long tranny build threads which also confirmed that along with a couple other things. I feel ready for final assembly now! Then cleaning valve body and installing Transgo TF-2 kit.

Is There Supposed To Be A Fiber Washer/Spacer Here? -727

Going through a 727 and have everything ready for final assembly. But it seems like the rear drum shouldn't be resting directly on top of the sprag without a washer or spacer of some sort (picture attached). This is a tranny we got from an RV but not known if it was in drivable condition at the...

I like it! But I might be a little biased... I modified my Cheetah STS shifter in a similar way.

Where does that NoYoYo valve go exactly? I don't think I need it but curious... Thanks for the pics!

stainless braided tranny line sprung a leak??

I used 5/16" steel fuel line from O'reilly and bent my own up, ran them up against the inside of the frame rail all the way to the front and it worked great. That sucks about your expensive stainless!

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

Thanks for that info. I have no idea how that rear band ended up so damn loose! Hopefully, things will be fine now but time will tell.

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

I pulled the transmission pan and did a thorough visual inspection of everything. The reverse/low band adjustment was extremely loose and the front band was pretty loose also. After adjusting both of those Andy follow-up test drive, it seems to be operating normally now! I am still curious about...

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

I believe I have found the problem: the rear band adjustment seems really loose. I can move the lever quite a bit with my finger, as shown in the video clip. I will tighten it up to 72 inch lbs and back it off two turns. Will also check the front band adjustment while I'm at it. Hopefully, they...

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

Thanks @TrailBeast for the links and insight! I will be checking into these more tomorrow. The center port never showed any pressure at at in any gears. But we never had the whells moving either while testing. Had my foot on the brake and brought rpm up to around 1600 or so.

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

To clarify, I ran it after rebuilding it fot 2 years with no issues. Was still working great when I pulled it out. Hoping maybe @fishy68 or @TrailBeast may be able to shed some light. :)

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

Nope. I'm aware of that issue and it's not that at all. I've let it run in neutral for a long time and checked fluid levels. Never gets any better.

727 manual valve body-Reverse is slipping BAD, All other gears seem good - Pressure tested

OK, so my transmission performed really great when I pulled the drivetrain out 2 years ago to paint my car. I had previously overhauled it with all the good stuff and billet servos from Oregon Performance, etc. Now, it slips real bad in reverse. Just drove to down to my friend's garage today...

What the f’n trick to get the tail shaft clip spread far enough apart

Are these the ones? $70 bucks. Looks like it. I ask because i will be pulling a couple of tailshafts off in the not-too-distant future. Pliers, Snap Ring, 90° Angle Jaws, 14" long

    Aftermarket flexplate ?

Do you know if your 360 is basically stock and still externally balanced? That will make a difference in which flexplate you need

    SFI flex plate Question

Just received my new converter from PTC and it looks great. Both of my flex plates bolt right up, easily and perfectly. They got it done quite quickly, considering they said it might take 2-3 weeks due to the deaths of some family members, at least one of which worked at the shop. Sorry for the...

    SFI flex plate Question

I also have one of those TCI Flex Plates. Nice piec. I also have one from PRW that is drilled for both 5/16 and 7/16 bolt holes. It seems like a nice piece also. substantially heavier than the TCI plate though. The only thing I am not certain of, is if these interchange between the 904 and 727...

Is This Common For a Custom-Built Torque Converter???

I've got 2 TCI sfi-rated flex plates that I know are perfect fits and have even ran one of them in my car before the rebuild. One of them is brand new and identical to the old one and they both fit my other 2 converters. The other brand new flex plate is a PRW brand, also sfi-rated and it also...

Is This Common For a Custom-Built Torque Converter???

Believe me, the bolts were never gone go in.... I tried every possible position and even tried flipping flex plates over, just for ***** and giggles. The bolt pattern was an 1/8 inch too big. I don't understand how that can happen but it did. Read my first post: I had 3 flex plates and 3...

Is This Common For a Custom-Built Torque Converter???

That was exactly what I thought, also. 2 TCI sfi-rated flex plates and one PRW sfi-rated. And like I said before, they all bolt right up t 2 other known good converters. The guy told me some converters get none and some need a lot of weight. I find that kind of odd and inconsistent. My guess...

Is This Common For a Custom-Built Torque Converter???

So, I followed advice and a reference from a reliable shop to have a converter built for my 416 stroker/727 combo off of my dyno specs rather than taking any stabs in the dark. Great, It arrived in one week flat. I was happy! Until I opened the box and saw two very large counter weights weld on...

    Opinions on painting transmission

No worries here.. I did spray the lizard skin on the underside of mine for heat and sound deadening. In the paint, I also added some tiny ceramic spheres (NASA kinda stuff), which is supposed to really help reflect the heat. My goal is to make this car as much of a pleasure to drive as possible...

    Opinions on painting transmission

My car, my choice. Your car, your choice. It's all good, guys! The point is to enjoy our cars, however that comes about, which varies from one person to the next. I thinks it's kinda fun when the car is up on a lift at buddies garage, to walk around underneath and look at all the shiny, clean...

    Opinions on painting transmission

I like to paint them if I have them out anyways. Easier to clean up again in the future and looks nice, even if not 100% stock. I used a basecoat/clearcoat urethane with hardener.

Did my 727 just die on me?

Hey Ramie, When we rebuilt my 727 last year we fabricated a tool from an old input shaft so we could spin the internals of the converter on the workbench. Added a drain plug to it as well so we flushed it out several times then flushed it the last time with tranny fluid. You can als grab a can...
