Quickest/fastest quarter mile on 15 inch "cosmetic" all season tires like BFG T/As (etc)?

Another factor I haven't seen mentioned yet about the speed rating is in relation to weight load and tire pressure. You can read on the sidewalls of modern tires "Inflate to XX psi MAX at YYYY lbs max load". Our A-bodies are pretty light and typical 9+ inch-wide 60-series tires can usually...

Can we talk about "center bore" for a minute?

In 2 cases for me, putting Ford-based wheels on Mopars (aftermarket FR500 wheels on my Duster and OE turbine-style wheels on an M-body) I found the center bore itself to be big enough but there was a thin lip that shrank down the ID a tad. I did have to get the front wheels bored out to fit on...

    Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Tires

I ran the 60-series Firehawks on my Duster before I switched to the current 18" setup (car in my avatar pic). I really liked them, much better grip than the BFG T/As I was running previous to the Firehawks (bought them right before they were discontinued back in about 2010). Did better in rain...

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

So searching around on here I saw a few mentions of the diameter of the '73-up front disc hubs in inches, converted to mm it was right around 71.5mm. I had the hub registers bored to 71.5mm and the fit is perfect, slightly snug slip-fit; gotta work the wheels around and push them onto the hubs...

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

Correct no center caps currently. The ones that came with the wheels don't look good to me and the front wheels were bored through but just enough for the hub to fit; it's a bit snug in there I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit a push-through center cap in it. I'll eventually find something...

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

Sorry for the delay but I never got a call from the machine shop that the wheels were done so that wasted a week or 2, trans also went out I just got done putting the valve body back in last Sunday. Wheels and tires are now on and they fit perfectly! I couldn't be happier, absolutely no...

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

Not quite but almost there, I received the rear tires a week or 2 back and just got the fronts a couple days ago. My neighbor who is a big Ford guy wanted to upgrade to wider tires on his Fairmont street machine (has a 32-valve 4.6L Cobra engine, bad little car) so he sold me his 2 rear...

@72bluNblu what do you think about 1/2" wheel spacers on the fronts, are they a bad idea?

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

OK so I figured I'd do an update. I got the wheels about 6 weeks ago, test fit the rears and with some very light grinding on the centering lip on the wheels they fit perfectly over the rear axle "hubs". A few days ago I took one of the front wheels and test fit it, with similar light grinding...

I see, that's a bummer... that car does look familiar though now that you mention it, I've definitely seen it before but 2011 is 9 years ago by now (!!!). I don't get how someone could let a car like that 'go bad' but happy to hear you're bringing it back! No worries! Glad to hear these...

Alright just placed the order now, can't wait to see how they look on the car!

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

Dang I didn't know 275s could fit on the front but yeah I'd rather not have to use spacers and such. The rear I have is out of a '67 Coronet it's definitely an earlier one, not a '71-up I know those are a lot wider. I had the spring perches moved 1/2" inboard on each side to line up with the...

Another "Will these fit?": 18" Mustang wheels

So I did search and was able to find a couple posts by members running 18" Mustang wheels but I wanted to make sure these specific ones would fit on my 1970 Duster. It is of course converted to 5x4.5" bolt pattern all around with '73-up front discs, also has an early B-body 8 3/4" rear so it's...

Autocross/Road Course driving on 15" wheels. What's your experience?

I've done two time attack events in my Duster with 15" Rallyes and fat tires (215/65-15 front and 275/60-15 rear) and it sucks lol. On one lap I tried airing down my fronts from 40 to 35 psi hoping for a bit more grip but all that happened was the sidewalls started rolling under the wheels and...

    Tire Load Rating

2 of the lower-rated tires still support ~2500 lbs, you have 4 of them and your car is probably 3200? I wouldn't worry about it.

Chrysler road wheel or Magnum wheel

Only "right" way would be to convert to '73-up front brakes and rear axles with the 4.5" bolt pattern. I guess if you are just cruising your car and not driving hard/racing the adapters would be OK but I wouldn't recommend it...

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

OK I bought a pair of Rallye wheels, 15 x 7" with 4.25" backspacing... these will fit on my car right?

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

Yeah that's this weekend Feb. 4-5, link to the website is HERE. Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for big-bolt-pattern stuff now.

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

Yeah the Tri-State swap meet, are you gonna be there? I have a 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern (so far only in front, haven't swapped the rear axle yet but still have wheels and tires for the back).

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

Well a pair of steel wheels off Summit is cheaper than another set of tires. I'd rather keep running the ones I have in the front and save the money for a big set for the back (255/60R15 or similar). Actually I may just look for a pair of Rallye wheels this weekend at the big swap meet in...

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

OK that's what I figured. Damn though, I really wanted to run these wheels they look great. I'll just have to order a pair of cheapo steel wheels from Summit with the correct backspacing. Thanks guys...

    15 x 7" Slotted Mag fitment problems

I tried putting a pair of 15 x 7" slotted mag wheels on the front of my '70 Duster with 215/65R15 tires and the tires rub the outside fenders pretty bad when turned a little bit. I was looking for wheels with more backspacing but Terry at AKH Vintage Wheels told me aluminum slots were never...

    Magnum 500s on a Duster/Demon?

I got four 15x7" wheels, no tires yet but planning on Firestone Indy Firehawks, pretty much the only choice out there for street tires on 14" or 15" muscle-car wheels besides BFG Radial T/As and I don't like them very much. Looking at tirerack.com it seems like the really wide street tires like...

    Magnum 500s on a Duster/Demon?

These cars all look fantastic but I ended up getting a set of old Ansen/U.S. Indy slotted mags, just happened to be the best deal I could find at the time. Thanks anyway for the replies...

Lug nuts/wheel studs for old slotted mags

Thanks guys, that's good to know about the wheel studs. However one pair of wheels has the lug holes 'recessed' and would definitely need different-length lug nuts than the other pair. I'll bring a wheel from the two pairs to O'Reillys and get a set when I'm getting ready to put the wheels on...

Wheel Adapters ?? YA or Nay

IMO if you're considering ever upgrading the front brakes or rear axle in the future just stick with whatever wheels you got for now because you'll have to get new ones later anyway. I'm guessing since you have drums all around you're going to upgrade to front discs at some point, and the only...

225/60-14 BFG Radial TA on 14x5.5 steelie

I ran them on the back of my '70 Duster for a while with stock 14x5.5" wheels and noticed uneven tire wear in the center after 6000 miles or so. I'd also recommend sticking with 215 or 205-width tires on those wheels. I had 205/70-R14 BFG Radial T/As in the front and they worked fine, wore...

Lug nuts/wheel studs for old slotted mags

I've now collected a full set of four 15x7" Ansen-style slotted mags (two are U.S. Indy, two are no-name from Japan...?) with 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern. Trouble is when mocking up on my '73-up front disc brake hubs the wheel studs are too short. How difficult is it to replace front wheels studs...
