    thermastat readings, help lower

I'd verify state of tune, fuel mix, etc. Most stats begin to open at a certain temp and are fully open at a higher temp. The giggle valves or small holes in the stat are good for allowing air bubbles to be displaced out of the engine into the radiator where coolant top up will take care of...

    Reading spark plugs

If a plug is too hot then all you need to do is change it to a colder plug in the same family. Been a long time and I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got it backwards, but most domestic type plugs it means subtracting a number from it to get a colder plug. Autolite 66 would be a 65...

    Reading spark plugs

Hmmm, that give me conflicting info on plugs then. On the page linked (think for sure it was on this post.... I'll have to check now) the heat range was being estimated for correct by looking at the threads on the plug. The ground electrode was used to look at timing. If the burned point was...

    Reading spark plugs

Looking at that great article on plugs on the link it looks like your plug is showing a bit too much advance. Says ideal colour change should occur closer to the apex. Good luck with it. Cheers

price for a running 225 slant six and 904?

Same sort of thing here. Just a matter of where you are really. I'd certainly take someone up on a free or up to $50 engine and trans deal. Being out in the middle of the desert though does have its down side. Great for the old health, but terrible for all the free or cheap offered engines...

    Cam breakin Procedure

There has been some info on the latest oils out and the possible damage to cams on break in. Be sure to not use "energy conserving" oils. If you do a search I think there is a post that also suggests using a GM oil additive for cam break in. Just a thought. Cheers

    Engine RPM?

Thanks for the answer. Know it is a bit of a cheek to ask on your question post, but combo is about the same as my (looking like years down the road) potential combo. Cheers

    Engine RPM?

How do you like that cam in the 318? How's the idle, choppy or smooth? Vacuum? Cheers

A quick Heads Up regarding oil changes

Worked for a Ford dealer for years (yes Ford). I worked on all the new cars, did the vehicle systems checks and all the warranty work for the first 5,000miles. Had a few come in with oil leaks from owner changes. Filter double gasketed. Worse yet is how many drove the car in that way to get...

    Copper head gaskets ?

Sort of off and on topic, but just read an old article in Mopar Action about their flying brick as they called it. Really nice car. Anyway, Ray Barton used copper head gaskets on thier engine. Small block stroker I believe, but could be wrong there as I was just reading a bit here and there...

    Engine Swap issues

Like you say, you are into a swap that far I think I'd put the K member in. Could then recoup some cost on selling the adaptor mounts. Plus you'd get the bonus of a sway bar by the sound of it. Best of luck on the swap. Cheers

My truck is stumbling (not an A-Body)

Fuel pump? Not a new vehicle, but had a 383 Belv and it would do the same sort of thing to the point of stalling. If you put your foot down on it it would run fine and take off no problems. If you were just puttering around town it would try sputter every time you came to a light...

    Can a breather be cleaned?

Better chaps than me. Tried pulling the breather off the Slant and it dug in for the long haul and would not budge! Bloody thing. Could probably pull the engine by hooking a chain to the breather if needed.

    Cam install question

Don't really have the answer to your question, but am very intersted in your results and how it turns out. My car is currently a /6 and perhaps I'm dreaming of swapping the 318 out of my parts dart, but been looking at the same cam and sounds like pretty much the same combo. If you would not...

    Opinions: Cam Swap or not

Hope I read your post right. No experience with the cam itself, but wanted to make sure you knew that you need to get new lifters with the new cam if you go that route. I'd also have the springs checked for the correct height and pressure. Myself, if I get a cam I buy lifters and...

    Power Steering Bracket

Sure enough you're right. Had not noticed that spacer missing. Well, not looked really as have been concentrating on suspension and brakes, but looks like I'll need to scrounge one up as well. Looking at the pictures I took it even looks like the bracket has sucked in a little just like...

    Power Steering Bracket

Not sure if this is going to help at all, but here is a couple of shots of the PS pump and brackets off my '73 Dart 318 parts car. Car did have AC at one time. I can only assume that they just removed the AC compressor and related brackets and left the PS pump and brackets alone as I don't...

    Installing a Tunnel Ram

Run more than one on more than one car. Is it optimum for the stock engine combination............... Congrats on being happy with it and on your reported results. Not in any way to sink to your "ball" level, but stand behind my statements as I'm sure you do with yours. Simply slapping...

    Installing a Tunnel Ram

Carb linkage kits are available. Probably Jegs or similar to get them although most of the time I ran tunnel rams it was with twin carbs. Call a tech line at one of the places and see what they have. You may have to adapt brackets and then run a cable system instead of mechanical. The...

    360 heads on 318

There is that link! Wasn't that posted this AM? A good read. One hopes they did not gloss over some key points in the build as if not then that is a pretty decent build for no real fancy parts. Cheers

    360 heads on 318

Not an expert on predicting power, but there was just a post on a article link for a 415 hp 318 not too far off what you have. Do a search for 415 or 415hp and it should come up. EDIT: WELL, I JUST TRIED TO FIND IF FOR YOU AND I COULD NOT GET IT TO COME UP. I MUST BE GOING LOOPY AS I'M SURE...

    Lifter lubrication orifice?

Don't have any info on the lifter with the hole, but this topic of the oil came up with the classic Mini crowd quite a while ago. Cam failures were the issue on new cam installs more often than not. Rapid wear etc. A few articles out on the net kicking around. Seems that oils that have...

    metal in oil pan

Okay, just looking at the pictures my first thought on that large piece that it was a piece of a broken ring. For it to make it into the pan, if it came from a piston currently in use in the engine, it would have damaged the piston and scored the cylinder wall to make its way down into the pan...
