    Bad day

Sorry to hear about that neighbor. I had that happen to me more than once when I lived in California. It really feels like being violated.

Electric Duster - Yeah, I built it.

Thanks for the positive replies guys. Yes, I can understand someone saying "it's not my cup of tea" but some people just get really infuriated. I wasn't really ready for that. I agree with Goldfish. I think our culture has changed. Somebody commented online somewhere about my car that he...

Electric Duster - Yeah, I built it.

Hey guys! I'm the one that built the electric Duster. Yeah, I'm still a member here - used to be ABodySickness. I don't post too much but I still read a lot here. Just thought I'd check in to see if people were talking about me and found a couple of threads. lol. To answer some questions...

    New Mopar restoration TV Show

I thought a lot of the BS in the trailer was actually tongue-in-cheek, dry humor. Irritating, but still kinda funny. If the show airs I will probably watch it like I watch all of the others currently on - with the sound off and my XM radio on. There is always "rewind" if something looks worthwhile.

    So?

No, but perhaps you'd fit in better over at moparts.com. Hey, just tryin to help.

    Thanksgiving barn find

I thought you said you were looking for an OLD Dodge truck, LOL. I am selling a '73 4x4 4-speed 360 running/driving project truck (and parts I have collected) for $1800 if you are interested.

Thanks. The race pics were from Topeka this year. The landscape shots were taken in/near Anchorage in late June. The landscape pics are "High Dynamic Range", which is actually a combined image using three different exposures. ~Bruce

    For A Bodies User Name

My very first car was a 340 Duster in 1970 that I owned for 7 years. In 2003 I got back into playing with A-body cars and purchased a 68 Dart. I enjoyed it so much that in a short amount of time I acquired another 6 A-bodies. That's when I concluded that buying them must be an illness of some sort.

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Hey Walt, I actually didn't set out to convert a Duster specifically. Last year I had decided to do some kind of a conversion, but I really hated all of the little cars that people usually use. I got to thinking, even if I converted a Honda or something, I probably wouldn't want to drive it...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Thanks very much for the kind words - I really appreciate it. Yeah, I've been keeping up with the advances in the lithium batteries. There have already been quite a few improvements in them since I began this project, and the price has dropped a lot too. If I were to do another conversion I...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Mr Hemi, where did you get your information about battery disposal? No really. Because I'd like to know why you think that. This is one of the common pieces of misinformation that unknowing people always seem to spout. Have you ever disposed of a battery or seen one in a landfill? No! When you...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Yup, that video is a pretty good example of the possibilities. It's cool except for the guy's smug attitude that sort of helps perpetuate the negative way people perceive electric vehicle owners. LOL There are all kinds of ways to improve performance of my Duster. Very soon I will be able to...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Thanks guys. I do expect to attain highway speed with this build. After I get the remaining little bugs worked out and get some benchmark numbers, I will concentrate on improving top speed and range. There are lots of ways to do that. If I were to replace the lead acid batteries with lithium...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

How true - very good point! I believe the negativity is all a matter of perception. I spent a lot of hours over 2 years bringing this car back from the dead. It has basically been my "practice" project for paint and body work, among other things. It needed a trunk pan but I started this project...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Hemifish69, I did have the pleasure of reading your original post. You are entitled to your opinion, and in fact I guess I solicited it, which is why I didn't respond to it. Kudo's to you for editing it :) You, like many others, completely miss the point of what I am attempting...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Great, thanks. I appreciate it. I guess owning/building 7 other classic Mopars isn't enough to be considered a true Mopar fan.

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

That's one reason I'd like to know what they wrote. No one from MCG contacted me about the car. This build has absolutely NOTHING to do with environmentalism. If they had bothered to read my blog about the build they would have discovered that. I wrote a lot about why I was building it, but even...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Useless, Thanks for bumping this. I take it that they wrote something unfavorable? I guess that's not too surprising. I no longer subscribe to MCG, and apparently they don't put any content online so I cannot view anything about the article. I don't think I'll rush out and buy a copy for...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

It's strictly a battery phenomenon. I'm sot sure how it works (probably chemical) but all rechargeable batteries seem to do it. If you run your 12 volt down so it won't turn your starter, wait an hour, try again and it will turn the starter a while longer. The rechargeable AA batteries in my...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

DionR - yes, there is nothing too new or groundbreaking in what I am doing, other than my choice of vehicle. When I was researching what I could do to buy less gasoline, I was really surprised when I discovered that people had been doing electric conversions since the early or mid 90s. The...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Oops, I forgot this: Automatic transmissions are a big disadvantage and therefore hardly ever used. By its design an auto trans wastes energy. You just don't have any energy to waste in a conversion using current technology.

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

All good questions that illustrate the differences between electric motor powered and internal combustion powered cars. You can actually eliminate the transmission altogether. The elect motor has maximum torque at low rpm so it easily gets the car moving in a higher gear. However, the elect...

    Introducing the Electric Duster Project

Hey Small Block, I would recommend first purchasing a book or two. I have the Michael Brown book "Convert It". The Bob Brandt book is supposed to be a good one as well. You can get either of them here. http://www.evparts.com/cat-Publications+%26+Books+...+Street+Vehicle.htm#77 Also, for...
