Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

RRR, IQ52 ect. Seems you are not directing your posts to me. You have your own thing going with more posts than I have for my question. I am here for my questions, not a bunch of back and forth that does not apply to me, I value your input as you guy's are good builders. I am am being kind here...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi IQ52, Some things seem to never change, Comp was that way 35yrs ago along with Edelbrock. Outstanding engineers with both of them from the start. I have pulled out more damaged comp parts in others engines from bad tech than I have installed. Nothing wrong with there parts, good stuff. But...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi Yellow Rose, I mostly have lifter examples in pairs going back into the 50s. For doing custom block machining on a Bridgeport like I described a few posts back. Like 40yrs ago on the outlaw sprint GM stuff. I made a custom riser for my mill back then so yes, I can put a 440 on it and even do...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi Yellow Rose, 40yrs ago we sponsered 3 outlaw sprint cars with 350 based engines. Rules then were flat tappet cams and NO mushroom tappets. So we bored the GM blocks on a Bridgeport mill for .904 lifters and then ramped the cams for them. The chevy mushroom lifters were .925. Tech never found...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi Yellow rose, I called comp last week and they told me there steel rocker does not oil thru the adjuster cup bolt. They just changed out to the cup bolt. Said I should oil like a chevy. They have steered me wrong before with there tech line. The old set I have here gravity oils. Other...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

(Rant)! Yellow Rose- That is the most refreshing, to the point, spot on, my argument, bit of automotive design savvey-savey-savv-owell. I have had the pleasure reading in a very long time. But you missed one very import'nt bit. The 1500+$$$ to teach that valve train the correct valve to open and...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi Bewy, Here is why I ruled out the comp rockers. Physics sez fluid goes with gravity, into a cup. You need push rod oil pressure to fill cup upside down, shaft rockers oil push rod with squirt hole. Push rod choices are a non issue with a cut to fit/press in top and adjustable checking rod...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

:D Hi Yellow Rose, Thank you for your reply. I have a complete unused Crane premium gold aluminum 1.6 rocker set from when I had my shop 14yrs ago. With there matched thick shafts and HD hold downs and studs. So you think they will last 150,000 miles on a street hyd roller? This engine is going...

    R6 440 block?

The "R" race blocks I believe were the older direct conection/mopar performance non-production small blocks that had the lifter angle changed to 48deg. To better line up with the push rods like the B-RB stock blocks. Better to stablize the valve train at higher rpm. They were 340 bore blocks. I...

Roller rocker choice for HYD rollercam/for High Miles-Full life

Hi everyone, I am looking for real experience, not "these are work'n great in my setup" then find out 6 posts later they have 7000 miles on there high mileage setup. A bit of background specs on what I have. Springs, 400-450lb @ max lift of .590 to .640, max rpm 6000. Trick Flow 240...

    Problems installing new pushrods!

Hi Carl, Glad I was able to help. Just remember that 2-3 threads out is max. Every setup I did for my self or customer engines with higher end aluminum rockers with geometry fixtures, the threads almost always ended up flush to the arm surface on the under side or very near. Longer push rods...

    Problems installing new pushrods!

Nothing to be frightened of in this thread, a lot of good information on how to set up the most forgiving of valvetrains. Assembling it several times without checking a couple easy measurements is very expensive. Think of it this way. 1 machine shop, 1 person machines your block another decks...

    Problems installing new pushrods!

Hi Carl, First, per Harland Sharp instructions, no more than 2-3 threads showing ball side of stud max, not ideal. You will break it off and also screw up your pushrod geometry. Second, forget about feel. Use actual measurement as in post #12-#13-#21 with chart in post #24 from top of lifter...

    516 head rebuild

Judge'n from your guide picture those guides look almost new. I would guess your grandfathers seat grinder is a Sioux? If it is it will have guide pilots for the stone holder, sized .000 +.001 +.002 +.003. They can be used as a go-no go gauge for guide size, no need for a $2000 dedicated guide...

    Thinking of going BB...

Hi Sinister, If someone answered your 3 angle valve job question and I missed it, sorry. But I think this is very important. A 3 angle valve job is a STOCK valve job period. Here is why. Your seat angle is 45 deg. to center the seat on the valve face and .060 to.080 seat with. How is this done...

    Oil Pump

The welded pickup to the pump is a VERY good chevy thing, they are pressed in and will fall out. Some builders drill and put a set screw in them and then they suck air. We know what that does. Pipe thread pickups just plain work. Rick

how much power can it handle?

Chevy rods are also too narrow on the big end. Your crank journal is wider so your side gap gets way over spec. IE you loose all your oil out the side of the rods and---- don't ask me how I know this. Early H-beam rods for BB Chry were made from chevy forgings. after finish you had sometimes as...
