help with a noise from the back of the car.

The rear end is identified on the fender tag not the VIN. The VIN tells the original engine size. With these cars being nearly 40 years old there is no telling what might have been changed over the years. If it is a Mopar rear end and you have 9 bolts on the rear end cover than it is a 7 1/4, 10...

Need help identifying an 8 3/4

The other wheel looks earlier so is there any id on it? There are very few manufacturers that used that style of bolt on hubs on the axles so that eliminates a lot of possibilities.

Need help identifying an 8 3/4

What size are the wheels? 14", 15" or 16"? Look on them to see if there is any id? The screw in lug bolts are a clue, 1955 was the last year for DeSoto and Chrysler and 1958 Plymouth. I think Dodge mostly used studs???

Need help identifying an 8 3/4

I have Hollander Interchange manuals all the way back to the 20s through 2006 and I pulled some that cover from the late 30s through the the late 60s but I never found that case number.

Mopar is called Sure Grip. Most aren't Sure Grip but they can always be built up to be.

What's a good rear end to put in my Duster?

An 8 3/4 or a 8 1/4 would be a nice upgrade. If your car is a factory disc brake car then the 8 1/4 out of an A-body would be the easiest. You would need a shorter drive shaft, u bolts and spring plates.

    more driveshaft questions-problems

Keep in mind that this is out of my area of vast knowledge. You used the longest yoke that you could find to put it back together and it sets way out of the transmission. Wouldn't using a shorter yoke allow the u-joint to be closer to the transmission therefor reducing the run out and possible...

I don't recall any 727 having splines sticking out that far but it has been a couple of decades since I have messed with one too. 9 rear end bolts, what rear end do I have?

It is the standard 7 1/4 that is used in your car. The 10 bolt 8 1/4 is optional. It would be a Felpro RDS12775.

    Umm..... What?

The convertor bolt holes are no where near the seal or gasket and is on the opposite side of the convertor. If you did ruin the convertor with too long of bolts, it should pour out tranny fluid as soon as you remove the bolt. My guess from the limited information that I have to work with would...

do I have the right x member here

If it won't come out cut the bolt in two, get a new one and install it the right direction. Once that bolt is out you should be able to get to the tranny bolts with a wrench by jacking the mount up.

Try jacking up on the tranny tail housing a little and see if that will change the bolt angle enough to get it out.

I don't remember them having that dip in them for the bolt to hang up on. The ones I remember is straight across with the ears sticking out. Trouble is would that style of mount work with what you have. It looks like it wouldn't match to the holes on the tranny. Maybe someone with more knowledge...
