    What is this? (8 1/4)

I believe that is just a vent so that when the fluid warms up(and expands) the air has a way of getting out and not building up pressure. From a design stand point I would guess that the bend in the tube is just so that debris from the road-water, dirt, etc- cant get in throught the vent...

    Rear band removal?

Thanks for all the info. I'll probably go buy a couple more quarts of fluid to be safe but I took it for a drive and the shifts feel great! What a difference. Instead of being persuaded to shift, now it's very deliberate and not overbearing at all when cruising. Thanks for the input...

    Rear band removal?

I'm done! Still haven't driven it though because of my next question: I know for filter change the spec is 4 quarts for a 727. Since I took the valve body out and it drained for 2 days, i feel like a lot more than 4 quarts came out. I only put 4 qts in right now and it didn't budge. RPMs...

yes I had backed it out all the way. The L/R band is inside the case. It stopped raining and I managed to cleanup under the car enough so it's ok to work. Just layed down some cardboard under there too. Already got the reverse band adjusted to 2 1/2 out..I'm going to adjust the front band...

as stated above....anyway, now that I decided to just go out and finish it off with the original spring I get under the car and now it's pouring here in houson. I just got rained out and I need the car tomorrow. Should've just finished it earlier instead of searching the net for ways to unhook...

    Rear band removal?

Nobody? Unfortunately, I have to get the car running today so I think I may not install the L/R spring from the kit. It's the only thing left, the rest of the kit is done already and was actually pretty easy. My wife took the camera with her on a trip, otherwise I would have taken plenty of...

    TF-2 install

Just got a TF-2 transgo shift kit for my 727 and I have a question. After reading through the instructions, they make it seem that some mods should only be done on race only vehicles. My car is a street/strip car. Exactly how hard do the shifts become? Any feedback from those of you who have...

    Reprogramming 727

I re-read my Mopar mags once in a while and found an article from the February 2002 issue of Mopar Muscle on reprogramming the 727. It mentions drilling one hole in the separator plate to 3/16" and three other holes to 1/8". That's no big deal but my question is this: If I do this now, will...

    Music to my ears!

Did all 8 1/4" rears have threaded adjusters to adjust backlash? I thought they were adjusted using shims. I got my 8 1/4" out of a 73 Dart if it matters. I was planning on sending it out to put the new gears in because I thought it was the shim type and I didn't want to deal with it but if it...

    Differential Fluid Drain

I'm going to change the fuild in my 8 1/4" open diff. Do I use the gasket or just some RTV? If I just use RTV, which is better to use? Also, what are the torque specs for the bolts and drain plug? Will they be different between using the gasket or RTV? ......so yeah, just help out with as...

    727 Dipstick

Does anybody know the length of the dipstick and dipstick tube on a mid 70's 727 transmission? I'm trying to make sure it's got enough but the reading seems like it has way too much. I know it went down when I changed the trans lines 2 days ago. Now I'm wondering if the dipstick is the...

    Trans Coolers

I have a 727 with 2800 stall converter behind my 318 w/ 360 heads(soon to be replced with a 360). I am planning on installing a trans cooler. I probably should have done this when I got the converter, I know, but I'm finally getting around to it. I work at AutoZone and we have the Hayden...
