    Post Road Trip Blues

Just about every year I take my 1966 Barracuda (1972 360 engine A-833 OD) to the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY. It's 400+ miles round trip, so I'm always a bit worried as to something going wrong. Except for a couple of blowouts (thank God I had a spare both times), I've never had any car...

    Ballast Resistor

Thanks for all of the good feedback....one last question....Is there any pattern to them giving out? Mine was just idling at a stop light (on a cool day, for what that's worth). Do they also go out under acceleration....kinda like if you had run out of gas? For some reason I was (wrongly)...

    Ballast Resistor

I've had my '66 Barracuda for a loooong time. About 10 years ago I put in a 72 360 engine with the orange box electronic ignition. I have an older style 2 blade (single coil) ballast resistor that has been on the firewall for I don't know how long. I heard long ago they were a weak link, so I...

    Power Steering Pump Overflow

Sorry, I can't add anything. As best I could tell, It quit leaking & performed just fine after I followed the advice on adding a little more fluid & 'working it in' by turning the wheels back & forth. I had bought some Lucas power steering fluid with a sealer additive & was going to try...

Updated SPITFIRE HEADER INSTALL 63-66 A-body

This is a great 'how to' for these headers. I bought mine when Howard was just getting started many years ago & they're still on my Barracuda today. I had mine ceramic coated because I never wanted to mess with them again! So far....so good. One thing I did differently was use a shorty oil...

    Is this the right one?

I'm wrapping up (hopefully) minor details on my '66 Barracuda assembly project. It was virtually disassembled when I trailered it home, so some parts were missing & some were wrong. It is bone stock..... automatic transmission + 273 V-8 with 2 bbl carb. The kick down linkage piece that came with...

    Crazy Gas Gauge

I'm going to take a breather for a while & regroup later. Unfortunately when I bought the car there was no gas tank/sending unit at all, so I bought both new thinking nothing could go wrong (what was I THINKING?). For now I'll keep track of how much gas I put in & synchronize that with my trip...

Thanks guys! I'll muddle through this & hopefully get it right....eventually.

    Crazy Gas Gauge

I just finished assembling a '66 Barracuda. I put in a new gas tank, fuel filter & sending unit. When I filled the tank, the handle clicked off and the gauge read Full. I drove it about 40 miles & it read Empty. I put in 3 gallons & it read Full again, only to drop to Empty in 40 or so miles. I...

    1966 Assembly Manual SOLD!

Sorry (well not really) :), but it's sold & on it's way to Wisconsin. FYI, I just learned that printed material USPS mailing is really cheap. Mark the package "MEDIA MAIL" to get the reduced rate. This 360ish page book cost me $3.86 to mail from KY to WI. I had no idea! Mark

    1966 Assembly Manual SOLD!

When I bought my disassembled 1966 Barracuda project about a year ago I thought it might be a good idea to buy an assembly manual to help me figure how the pile of parts would all fit together. Surprisingly they all DID and I'm DONE! I made a pledge to God that I'd never do it again, so I won't...

    Pics of early Barracudas

First picture is when I trailered it home full of parts in December 2018. It looked like crap, but it's a rust-free Texas car. the second & third pictures are from a few days ago.....almost finished! I'll be looking to sell....losing my storage.

    Yet ANOTHER Mystery Part

I'm guessing these were flexible when installed & all have become brittle over the years. I'm going to leave well enough alone. :)

    Yet ANOTHER Mystery Part

The adventure of putting a '66 Barracuda continues. Again, in my defense, I didn't take this car apart. Please look at the attached picture (from my other '66) & you'll barely see the outer edge of a shiny "L" shaped piece that tucks between the headliner & the rear window seal. These pieces...

    A/T Console Shifter Slide

WOW....talk about creative solutions!!!! Since I didn't have the part at all, I didn't know the size or thickness that I needed, so I wound up paying $11 for a used one shipped to me from a FABO member. It should be here by the end of the week & I'll have my console issues behind me....I hope. :)

    A/T Console Shifter Slide

That was my original plan, but since I didn't have the old one to use as a template to get the dimensions, I figured I might be able to pick up a used one at a fair price.

    A/T Console Shifter Slide

No, My green '66 is still a 4 speed. I'm leaving that one alone. I picked this (now) yellow one up about a year ago.

    A/T Console Shifter Slide

You're right! He has 3 of 'em next to the flexplate. I'll check with him. That may be the best way for me to go. Band-Aids are getting expensive. Thanks!

    A/T Console Shifter Slide

I'm closing in on the re-assembly of my '66 Barracuda and am missing a piece. In my defense, I didn't take it apart, so it may not have been there to begin with. The part is called a shifter slide. I looks like a rectangular piece of thin black plastic with a hole in the center (for the shifter)...

What radiator for 64 360 barracuda?

I also used a 19" Champion & a chrome $20 Chinese one-size-fits-all shroud on my '66 Barracuda with a 360. I could have gone a little wider, but I was afraid I might run into problems with the fit. The lower hose was a bit tough because of the angle of the curve coming out of the tank, but in 5+...

    Barracuda Gas Pedal

Had to jack the car up in tight surroundings & the 2 7/16" nuts were just above the exhaust pipe/clamp & under an AT line. The nuts were a ***** to get to, but broke loose easily. Pedal now removed. Now I can get to work! Thanks to all for your input.

    Barracuda Gas Pedal

Well, I was hoping I wouldn't need to go underneath. There isn't a jack (or stands) where I'm keeping the car - and I'll bet the bolt/s underneath aren't gonna want to give up after all these years, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. First I'll check again for a spring clip on top. I didn't see...

    Barracuda Gas Pedal

I'm going to install new carpet in my '66 Barracuda tomorrow (weather permitting). It is a V-8 A/T w console. I was looking at what I need to remove...seats...seat belts...etc., & noticed the gas pedal is attached to and pivots from the floor. I can't crawl under the car where it sits now, so I...

    Vinyl Top Thingys

Thanks for this information. If I can't find a pair, I can try to make something.

    Vinyl Top Thingys

I don't recall seeing these before. The ones I saw looked more rounded, but they look like they'd work!

    Vinyl Top Thingys

OK, thanks. Since mine didn't have the pieces when I got the car - it was apart - I don't know exactly what they look like. Did your Duster's vinyl top extend to the bottom of the A pillars like mine? I know some didn't.
  28. PistolGrip

    Vinyl Top Thingys

Will do. I didn't know there was a hard to find section. With '66 Barracudas with vinyl tops a LOT of the parts are hard to find. :) I do have all of the other parts although I'm missing a couple of clips for attaching the chrome parts on the top, but I have enough of them to do the job. Thanks!

    Vinyl Top Thingys

OK, this probably isn't the technical term, but for now It will have to do: I'm looking for the 2 little short chrome thingys that screw to the base of the A-pillars where the vinyl top meets the yellow paint (the part missing in this picture). Each one attaches with a single Phillips screw. My...
