Race gas vs pump gas on lower compression street/strip motor

Back a few years ago we did R & D on a restricted sb chevy on the dyno at 10-1 compression on vp 110 and 93.3 pump gas back to back. pump gas made 6 more hp than vp. We tuned for the best pull with each. Not earth shattering but in a restricted engine every bit counts. Yeah I know...it was a...

    R3 engineering drawings

Stanton Racing or Arrington should be able to help you out. If you still have a road block go to the W7-8-9 Facebook page. Brett Miller or many others there can steer you in the right direction with these. I'm in the middle of building R3 W8 as we speak. Same as you I've been building...

Moser 8 3/4 Housing... anyone use one ?

Just received a new Strange D60 for a clients car. Very nice quality piece and if you plan on making power it is the way to go. Unfortunately it took over 3 months for them to deliver it to me. His other car a W2 340 7.24 1/8th broke a 4.10 489 just like J pars within a week. I've seen many 8...

At a crossroads, SB guys please chime in.

230lbs. sounds about right. W8 heads are not light weight pieces either. In building a 1000+ hp boosted engine saving weight in the engine is not the place I would be looking to save IMO. An R3 block and w8 heads are stout pieces and will live long and happy lives in a boosted application. Also...

At a crossroads, SB guys please chime in.

The short deck version R3's are around and can be found in 48 and 59 deg. They will handle 1000hp easy. Now for the hard part. They are not cheap or easy builds for the average Joe. If you go that route I have a short deck boosted rotating assembly I'd be willing to let go. Currently building a...

Help me shave off 3 tenths in the 1/4

Another one for the converter. Most converter people will give you one free stall change. Even just a couple hundred rpm can make a big difference in torque range of a stroker. You're not looking for much and it's only labor.

Wondering what 1/4 times would be

Which track are you heading to? Lakeland has better prep but a short shutdown. Showtime has a nice shutdown but spotty prep at best. Would be a great little track if the promoter cared. I'd say 8.70 at Showtime and 8.50-8.60 for Lakeland.

which gear ratio for 1/8 drag strip?

We ran a combo very close to yours 340 10.4 comp. w2 heads and the same Hughes cam with a 1.6 rocker. 727 with dynamic conv.flashing to 4200 with a 430 gear and 28x10.5x15 mt's. The car ran 7.35 in the 1/8 shifting at 6800. Went with 4.86 reaching for a better 60 ft and more rpm's at top end...

post your 9second and quicker combo's here!

Rob, thanks for starting this thread. I've followed along like many others looking to see how everyone is making power and hooking it up to run 9's. Personally I was hoping to see more small block builds but that's my problem. As far as 67dartgtw9 giving a wise comment I don't see it. You asked...

    Top End Needed

Also check your valve spring pressure. Could be floating the valves on top end. More noticable in high gear. Car just lays down. We got a bad set that crapped out on 3rd pass. From around 6000 thru 6400 the car was just flat.Company rep. told me they had a bad run of springs made good on the...
