    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

@Turbosmblk Thanks for that info. I might be able to use a push-on/push-off toggle switch to leave reverse engaged if I need both hands for parking lot maneuvering rather than a momentary contact push button.

Not sure if there’s a question there, but the valve body is a hybrid I guess, original cast valve portion with billet block plate

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

I don't have the Transbrake version. Maybe I should have gotten that one, but I didn't think I wanted to hold a button while backing in/out of parking spaces with manual steering. I think it was a botched rebuild job. I found a snap ring that everybody says doesn't belong in any Mopar...

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

Thinking back, I'm reasonably sure I MIGHT have hit O/D, but I KNOW I didn't L/U. In stock form, The O/D, though engaged via a solenoid, is still a hydraulic function. The solenoid opens a valve that sends fluid to the O/D piston. In this valve body, he just directs fluid physically just like...

No, I for some reason have to complicate everything. I used a Cope reverse manual valve body. He engages O\D manually. You use a standard ratchet shifter, but it goes PR1234, you don't have neutral. I sure hope I don't regret going this route, and it is causing me some angst.

FWIW, I did mine without the “special” tools, just a $28 amazon digital caliper. The round bar is 5.5. “, and the caliper extends enough to down to where yo need, you just need to be careful to measure to the right “landing” and subtract 5.5 inches from the reading to get to what the chart is...

Rather than muddying monkeymadness thread concerning 46RH, heres my tales of woe about my A500/42RH. 42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

Well, I had figured it was going to take some time to get this sorted. Working here & there between work & my dad’s problems I’ve made some progress and said I would update. Since I had asked for a performance build but basically got a V6Dakota level freshen-up, I decided to dive in. I went on...

    A518 46RH rebuild

Well, it looks clean, but I didn’t bother measuring clearances because when I ordered it, I knew it was a flats pump and I have a brand new lug drive converter and I thought I could just put my pump parts into the new housing. The flats drive pump is a larger diameter so my parts leave too much...

    A518 46RH rebuild

Just check your stuff over real well if you get stuff from trans parts online. I’m building a 42RH right now and had to order a new pump. I ordered it and after not hearing anything for a couple days, I called out there around 8:30 AM California time and I think I woke the dude up. he said he...

Part Question for Auto Trans Gurus

Thank You all for your input. I feel comfortable that I can proceed based on your helpful advice. I don’t have any idea where that ring came from, maybe the guy that built it before they went out of business. Could be why Im needing to fix it myself. Let you know how it works out, but it might...

Part Question for Auto Trans Gurus

@monc440 Here is a good site to see the exploded view of the a500.…yeah, thats the one I was looking at I was figuring on the “extra parts” concept, but I thought I was careful about keeping the new parts separated. But it was a good number of months @moparlvr166 all good suggestions, but I...

Part Question for Auto Trans Gurus

About 7 months ago, I took apart my transmission watching a video posted by @67Dart273, very detailed tear down & rebuild, though the guy was working on a 518, & mines an A500. Now many months and a short memory later, I got it back together but I have 1 part left over. I don’t know if it came...

How many using an A500 overdrive ?

I ordered a slip yoke for my A500, but I don’t know where the paperwork is right now, so I can’t give you a part number. I am measuring 1.680 on the outside diameter of the yoke. Here is a picture inside the end of the yoke, but I see full spines on the output of the transmission, no specific...

How many using an A500 overdrive ?

My understanding is that a Lockup 904 is actually an A998 or A999. Basically an updated 904 though. I might be wrong here, but I think 904=3 forward clutches, 998=4, 999=5 Gear ratios are the same, 2.74:1 First, 1.54:1 Second, 1:1 Third, 2.21:1 Reverse and if an O/D version, 0.69:1 Most Google...

999 clutch pack in a 904' & opinions on fluid

I've read where people say to put 5 discs in the forward clutch as opposed to the 4 that I have now, but never see part numbers and details. I've recently read that the A999 trans is the 5 disc version of the 904. Do I simply order clutch parts for the 999? Are the 5 frictions and steels...

    A body overdrive transmission

You gotta cut the crossmember out of the way for either one, and shorten the driveshaft. The 518 is a bit larger and longer. The USCarTool rear transmission support is supposed to be strong enough to take the place of the cut upper hoop, but I bent two pieces of 1/8" flat steel into half...

    42RH in 68 Dart advice/request

Well here it is a couple months later and I finally have a day to start looking at it. The o/d clutches, o/d direct clutches, and direct clutches all look great. The forward clutches and end plates however, look to be damaged. How does that clutch pack get damaged yet none of the others?

    Proper Thickness of Frictions

Black material, looked gritty, drained it all into jugs. Need to check to see whether it went to recycle with my old oil

    Proper Thickness of Frictions

Since I’ve never taken apart an automatic before, I have no idea if those discs look like new or 1/2 worn out. There was what I would consider a lot of material in the fluid. So if those look good, where might it have come from? If they look 1/2 used up, then it would make sense to replace them...

    Proper Thickness of Frictions

It is apart, that is a close up of a couple of discs. Fresh, but not expensive converter (forget who I finally got it from) new lines & cooler. I don’t see anything blatantly wrong. That’s why I’m asking about whether those discs are fine, or if I should spend the money on replacing them...

    Proper Thickness of Frictions

I had my transmission rebuilt a couple years ago. Project got put on hold before even starting it up. I recently got it to the point of driving, and drove the car to and from the alignment shop. Everything seemed to work OK, but when I got home, I noticed a fluid leak the next day. I drained the...

    torque converter how to order

I’m just spit balling here as I know little about racing, and especially dirt tracking. My thoughts would mainly be fodder for more conversation or the opportunity for those who know more to inject something. I would imagine that a high stall speed would not be as important as in a drag car...

    torque converter how to order

Milt at Precision of New Hampton. As much info as you can provide Cam specs, or if you have a dyno sheet that shows your torque curve, gear ratio, (do you come out of a corner in 2nd or 3rd?) axle ratio, tire diameter
