Yep, there's some spring clips AND speed nuts. You won't be able to "pop off" the trim w/o removing the speed nuts...

My '65 Signet has the floor shifter for the automatic. I was going to remove this anyway to swap in a 5 speed. I'll check it out tonight and see if it still has a decent looking cable. Anybody interested in the floor shifter (no console)? I'll post some pics tonight...

Nice info, Al, thanks. I've been thinking about modifying an 8.8 out of a Mustang or Explorer to put under my '65 Valiant. They're plentiful, cheap, and come with limited slip diffs and discs stock. From what I've seen, they're about 4 inches wider than the old 7.25, though. Anybody done this swap?
