Sounds like another track may be closing

They had the race at Maple Grove, not as many faster cars than the New Year’s Eve race. The rain Friday and Saturday morning probably kept some from making the trip. They had a daily driver bracket class, couldn’t dial quicker than 10.00 in the 1/8 mi,no trailer towing and no burnout . Gave 2...

    Front plate/ water pump question

I would like one of those timing covers! I run an engine plate that is cut out for a factory water pump, and use the Meizere back plate and electric water pump. My friend always borrows my backing plate for the dyno

    Do you rotate your slicks?

The AMX I drive I swap the Hoosier radial slicks left to right and right to left about every 20 to 25 runs. The sidewalls usually go before the wear holes are worn out, and if I don’t swap, I had them go bad in 45 runs

    Going Powerglide

If you have a stock firewall, the clearance for the bellhousing bolts will be tight. Probably need longer dowel pins with the midplate too. There are plenty of different size spacers available for the converter bolts.

    1350 dana 60 - 8.75 pinion yoke ?

I used the Mark Williams yoke on my Dana 60, because at the time I was told that it was the only one that would fit the Racepak ring for the rpm sensor

    Seat Belt Cert Questions

Since it is the off season, you could check on getting them recertified, but usually the shipping and cost to recert are more than new ones. I would check with RJS and see what the lead time to recert would be also.

Would an extra 2" of tread width help?

Depending on what the tires actually measure, could be 2” per side, or 4” total . I was always taught to put the biggest, stupidest tire on. If I was worried about the 60 foot change with bigger tires, I would change the rear gear to compensate. A friend of mine built a Monza, with a small...

    Front end setup (Drag Racing)

5 degrees is nice,if you can get it on both sides. If not , set it for as much positive caster as possible equally, with out binding anything. It is better to have the tire pressures all set, ride height adjusted and the driver or driver’s weight in the driver’s seat. I raise the front end up by...

    Custom headers

I think that he is a member. Has a Dodge Dart. He has done headers for some friends of mine, I will see if I can get some contact info. He also fabricates front suspensions, I think Les Gibson has one of us kits.

Tory Schelhamer ? Not sure if I spelled that correctly.

    Rotating mass and inertia

You are correct. The machine shop I used for my 340, they turned a .100 off the counterweights of my factory steel crank to balance it.

Any guys running low gear sets with strokers?

I have one in the AMX I race, 3120 lbs but the AMC engine isn't a stroker. In fact is is a large bore, short stroke 390. It is a Torque Command trans, 904 with a AMC bellhousing. I am sure your stroker engine has more torque than the AMX, so I am not sure if you would benefit, but with every...

Finally got my last needed part

That is very nice. I have spent a lot more on tools that just sit in my tool box now. At least you will use it.

    Plug read, opinions needed

Were the spark plugs indexed? Maybe the ground strap is in a different part of the chamber in those 3 cylinders.

A little keystone Friday night test n tune

I was at Maple Grove Friday Night Grudge Racing, and they upped the entry to $50. There were a lot less cars there then before. The track prep is never that good on a Friday night, but you could have got a bunch of runs. Last year I heard of people only getting one run because it was so crowded

    Methanol jetting

That might be ok, depending on the carburetor. A lot of the ones I worked on had holes drilled in the metering block just above the jets, so the jet sizes were smaller. Make sure you have enough fuel volume and pressure, usually use twice as much as race fuel. If you can’t build any engine temp...

Need help from the suspension gurus here!

I would make sure there is no bind in the front suspension again, and make sure that there is extension on the front shocks at ride height. Check and see how many inches of travel is in the front suspension. I would like probably 4” or 5”. I always have limiters on my car. My old 70 Dart was a...

    Drag car brakes

Most race car brake systems have a adjustable proportioning valve in the rear brake line. Might depend on the master cylinder and where it is mounted. Might need residual valves also if the master cylinder is mounted low

    Battery kill switch in truck

I am pretty sure, for safety reasons, anytime a battery is relocated, you will need a battery shut off switch wired in the positive side. Depending on where you race and what sanction, and who tech’s your truck in.

    MSD GRID

I know that with the ACD air shifter in the AMX, he recommended setting the box 200 rpm lower then you want the shift rpm at.

Ok...This ought to stir the pot...

I learned about pushrods early, the first 360 I built with a roller cam. I had a set of 3/8 pushrods laying around that seemed to work pretty good with the Harland Sharp rockers. The first hard pass at the drag strip started popping at the top of first gear. Shut it off, towed back to the pits...

    Small block oil mod/pump

I take every new oil pump apart, and do the modifications shown above. My buddy took his brand new pump apart, and found machine grit inside. So even if I didn't do any mods, I would disassemble , inspect and clean

    727 TF safety shield

I use a blanket on the AMX I drive, not much available and no room between the floor and trans. My friend said that he doesn't like blankets, because it raises the trans temp, but the trans in the AMX never goes above 150°

    727 TF safety shield

But you probably can't get one. I had one on order for over a year, and after numerous promises, canceled the order and got my money returned. On my 70 Dart, to run the Powerglide shield, I cut the floor above the transmission, stretched it up and welded a piece back in.

    Footbrake to transbrake comparison

A bunch of the Super Stock guys I race with say there cars are faster off the foot brake than the transbrake, and will qualify like that. One guy could not get is car to hook on the transbrake, so he always foot brakes. The AMX I drive, has to run a Carter 525 CFM AFB, and doesn't have...

Can't use tubes in Weld Wheels Draglites?

The Hoosier are pretty good slick , and alot I know do not run tubes in them. I mount and balance my own tires too. I usually coat the inside of the slicks with Palmolive dish detergent, some guys use Dawn or Murphys oil soap. Very little leakage, if any. The last set I mounted, I didn't...
