    4.88 7 1/4

Hi Guys, I found this freak 4.88 : 1 gearset for a 7 1/4 rear axle. Could anyone tell me in what application it could have been used? I always thought 3.91 was the highest gear available? Thanks, Antoon

Pinion Depth on 8.75 741 case

You can also get an extra inner pinion bearing, and make the inner diameter slightly bigger, so it slides onto the pinion shaft easily. Then you have to set up the rest as the shop manual says, and check the tooth pattern. If it's off, install more or less shims, until you reach the correct...

    8 3/4 axle out of c-body

Did you put the trans in neutral? Or take of the driveshaft at the rear end, and try to rotate the yoke. If the driveshaft is blocked by the trans, and the wheel you were turning went in the opposite direction of the wheel on the other side, it means you have a non-sure-grip diff, or a sure...

    489 crush sleeve

The best way to go for you is to determine how much preload is on the pinion bearing right now, and repeat that with a new crush sleeve. Otherwise you might ruin the bearings as they get another preload all of a sudden. The preload usually wears down with age, and increasing it can cause the...

    Rear End Narrowing ?s

If you want to center your wheels better, wouldn't it be better to get wheels with a different backspacing? Or make your existing wheel wider, but only on the inside. That would save you a lot of trouble for the 1/2" of narrowing the axle. Plus you would be using green bearings which will...

    driveshaft slip yoke

I'm converting my 68 valiant from a three speed to a four speed. The four speed I have came from a 1967 barracuda, so it has the small diameter output shaft, and the slip yoke from my valiant will slip right in. Now for the question. Along with the four speed also came the original slip yoke...

    clutch disc

I'm looking for a direct replacement clutch disc for the 10" borg&beck clutch I have. It's going in my 225 four speed valiant. The pressure plate and flywheel are in good shape, so I won't be needing those, just the disc. Where can I find one???? Thanks, Antoon

    8 3/4 tapered to flanged

Hi guys, A friend of mine is working on his 63 savoy, and making a max wedge clone out of it. The car came with the feared tapered axle 8 3/4 rear. Is it possible to convert this axle to the regular flanged design axles, by just using some B-body axles? Thanks, Antoon

I've got a '66 cast iron /6 bellhousing for a four speed, and it only has a bolt pattern for a four speed, and not for the three speed. Hope this helps. Antoon

Perhaps your dirve-shaft is too long which causes it to bottom to the end of the outgoing shaft of the automatic? Antoon

8 3/4 Thrust Button removal on cone type sure grip?

You should experience no problems at all this way, as long as you put the spacer between the axle and the backing plate. It's basically the same as with your old set-up. Good luck, Antoon

Driveshaft change 7.25 to 8.75 rear end, what changes needed?

If the yoke size on the diff is different than what you're running now, there's no need to switch the yoke. There's a conversion u-joint available that can go from the small 7260 to the big 7290 u-joint. Antoon

8 3/4 Thrust Button removal on cone type sure grip?

You don't need to take the ring gear from the carrier. The sure-grip unit is bolted together with seperate bolts from the other side. You'll see it when you get it out. Are you still running original cone style axle bearings? If so, you will need the thrust block, so you can adjust the axle...

8 3/4 Thrust Button removal on cone type sure grip?

Basically, if you want to do it the right way, is take apart the centersection and open up the sure-grip unit. Then you can take out the thrust block. reinstall the sure-grip unit and adjust the settings of the diff. Or.... You can mark the adjusters and housing and then take the unit apart...

You will have to secure the yoke. A vise works great, or a very large spanner. Antoon

    8 3/4, (741) Pinion seal removal

Losening the nut with airtools should be no problem. Tightening however use the torque wrench. torque should be 240 foot punds when new. What's most important is that you check the preload of the pinion bearings. should be around 15-20 inch pound. If it's lower than that, keep it that way when...

73 dart axle to 68 valiant

This has probably been asked before, but is the axle width and spring perch placing on a 73 dart axle the same as on a 68 valiant? I might be able to buy such an axle so I can start my conversion from 5x4 to 5x4,5. Thanks, Antoon
