How many miles on the new gears??? If it's jumping at each shifting point then it's normal.

After putting in the required amount of trans fluid I always put the rear end on jacks and run it through the gears filling the trans as I go. If you have put fluid in until it shows "full" on the dip stick you should be able to run it through the gears with the rear end up on jacks without...

It's always easier to make improvements on someone else's idea.....the hard part is coming up with the original idea to begin with (making the extra notch). That's why I said that I stood on your shoulders to make the improvement!!!

Now that I've seen what you did ....I would done this: Make a ramp so that the spring loaded shifter pawl is "directed" to the drive position by the ramp. But I only came up with this idea after seeing what you did so you can say that I stood on your shoulders??

If you "slam it" into drive from 2nd is there a possibility that it could jump over the "Drive" notch into neutral??

There's one way to do it!!!!!

I installed a 4 speed GM auto trans and modified my factory floor shifter to use the extra gear. You can see the last notch that's normally on the shifter in the first pic. I also installed a switch that only lets me start the car in park for safety since I couldn't hook up the factory 4 speed...

I don't like the aluminum ones because they can shift and or break. The steel ones are usually bolted to the leaf spring pack and will not shift or break. That is the reason they use them on 4 X 4s. PS- Some aluminum ones are cast aluminum which makes them pretty brittle.

To answer your question: the driveshaft (from stock length) can vary from 1/4" long to about 3/8" short from stock length. If you have any old D/S that you can cut up (like I have done) you can install the yoke (with u-joint) and then install the u-joint on the rear end and get a real good...

I hope all you stuff is "dead stock", because if anyone has changed out the trans or the rear end the length may not be correct???

700R4...all you need is the TV cable and a non-lock up convertor, nothing else to hook-up but the shifter!! Of course you have to buy an adapter.
