    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

Well it looks like I can pull the shoes, hardware, Ebrake cables, drums, and pitch the rest. The oddball 8 3/4 axles require a special backing plate, and I think I have a se, ill have to dig through some parts. .

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

I just wanted to know this before I pitch the axle. I think I have a pair of A-body SBP backing plates somewhere "I hope" It would be a shame to junk them if they would work on the 8 3/4

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

Yes, the drums are 10'' and are the "bell" style. that's what got me thinking. I have done a couple small to large BP 8 3/4 conversions and know what's involved. I want to keep this car with the small pattern and use the stock wheel. If the drum is the same, wouldn't that mean the backing plate...

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

well I've seen that axle ID sheet, but it doesn't show the 7 1/4 (i'm assuming that's what's in the demon). I didn't think to look at the bolt pattern when I had the drums off.

    7 1/4 To 8 3/4 drum brakes

Are the 7 1/4 and 8 3/4 SBP drums, backing plates, shoes, the same? I am stripping down a 72 6 cyl Demon with a 7 1/4, and will be installing an 8 3/4 SBP in its place. Before I pitch the whole 7 1/4 setup, should I save the backing plates etc to help assemble the new 8 3/4. I have an 8 3/4...

    mY BRAKES SUC....

Yes, you are correct, I missed the point of the question. I was referring to adding a power booster to a non power car to solve a brake problem. Low vacuum is a problem with a power assist car. Id say it would be easier to just convert to full manual.

If the brakes are not right, adding a booster isn't the fix.

    Wilwood disc brake install tips?

I've put on three kits. Pretty straight forward, just follow the directions. you'll need to shim to center the caliper with supplied washers, but that's pretty easy. Check to make sure your brake lines are correct (length) for your application. It does take a bit to get the calipers bleed...

    Brake push rod to long?

yea, I tried cutting the adjustable rod, but still couldn't get it short enough.

    Brake push rod to long?

well, I bought a spare rod from a member here for the reason of cutting it to length. Not my first choice, but Im out of ideas. I was under the impression that all manual rods were the same length, and now I know that is not true. Of the two spare rods that I now have, one is about 1/4''...

    Brake push rod to long?

try bleeding the brakes again. The wildwood calipers seem to want to hold air causing the brakes to lock. Ive installed three wildwood front disc kits and that's pretty normal from what ive seen. As far as the pushrod being to long, are you seeing the pedal way up off the floor??? I have that...

    brake pedal too high

Ok, so you just replaced the master cylinder and that is the result? Id say you may have found the problem being only the MC and not the length of the pushrod. I converted two power brake cars (one drum and one disc) over to manual and just used the same MC bolted directly to the firewall. They...

    brake pedal too high

That is the same MC i have on the two cars im having trouble with. That little tab is very soft and not very safe. When trying to install the adjustable push rod to lower my pedal, i tried pulling up on the pedal to unseat the rubber retainer on the origional pushrod and it just pulled the...

    brake pedal too high

Nice find! and cut/weld job! 50.00 bucks is steep for a reconditioned rod, but im not sure welding is the way to go. Im an average welder with access to a nice miller wire feed so ill have to sleep on this one and decide.:glasses7:

    brake pedal too high

Ive noticed the same problem also. I have converted a 69 swinger from power disc to manual and a 68 valiant from power drum to manual. I purchased two used pushrods from manual cars and noticed the pedal is way up off the floor. I tried the adjustable pushrod from mancini on the 69 swinger and...

9" drums all around...not diggin' it!

I think the Wilwood disc kits will work with 9'' or 10'' drum spindles, you need to specifywhen ordering. They are exspensive kits, but are pretty easy to install. I have converted my 69 Dart to the Wilwoods without changing the master cylinder and already have the kit purchased for my 70. Both...

    brake pedal travel

Not to hijack your thread, but i also am having some 69 manual brake issues. 1st, i would agree with the rear drum adjustment. if the pedal is hard, adjust the rear shoes and ill bet your problem improves. My problem is with the distance my pedal is from the floor. I just removed the power...

    69 power to manual

well, i pulled off the power booster and mounted the origional MC directly to the firewall, rebent the origional lines, and no problems there. second, i purchased the Mancini adjustable brake pushrod and found a couple issues. First, the 1/2'' hole in the brake pedal end of the pushrod is not...

    69 power to manual

ok, the mopar lightweight aluminum MC and pushrod will work? no firewall adapter/ support modifications, or proportioning valve/ line work will need to be done? probably should have done this from the start!

    69 power to manual

guys, Currently im building a 69 dart swinger with power disc. whats involved in switching from power disc to manual disc? Ive already done the KH disc to Wilwood disc conversion, and am now having a 408 stroker put together. The engine builder has not specified a cam choice yet, but says that...
