    Parking lights snafu

I have those attached. I even sanded the paint. They still weren't working.

    Parking lights snafu

I grounded the socket on parking light and the bulb came on. I don't know how the socket normally grounds but by setting a wire on the metal socket and grounding it, the light comes on.

    Parking lights snafu

One thing I managed to figure out is that the blinker side of socket doesn't work unless the headlight switch is on in either park light mode or all the way on in headlight mode. If headlight switch is off, then the blinker side doesn't do anything.

    Parking lights snafu

Today I am trying to get my parking lights on Barracuda to work. It is a '69 'Cuda. The socket for the turn signal and parking light is working because it lights my test light up. The bulbs are good because I tried them in the taillight sockets and they function correctly. I check the contacts...

    As the distributor turns

Checked it out. Seems too good to be true. I could only see the video, but no pics for me. I hope it does away with the ballast resistor. Are the parts readilly available?

    As the distributor turns

After dealing with the ultra sensitive Mopar Electronic ignition system and failing ballast resistors, I am going back to an HEI style. Does anyone know of a reliable aftermarket HEI type offered? Any personal experiences or recomendations?

    Guess who's back

Now that was a comprehensive and helpful reply! Thanks! I just bought a good voltmeter. I will do this check when I get home. I do remember that my blue wire also has a brown wire running into the same terminal that plugs into the resistor. Knowing the voltage in and out of resistor helps a lot!

    Guess who's back

    Maybe if Eminim drove Mopar.

    Guess who's back

I am running all new ignition stuff. The box is a Mopar orange box. The distributor is a Mopar performance unit with corrected advance curve. The coil is a Mallory (slightly used.) The ballast resistor is a Mallory unit. Last night it just started intermittently losing fire. If we let it sit for...

    Guess who's back

The car had been running really badly. I started hunting for a vacuum leak because it wouldn't run unless I kept working throttle. Now I am thinking it was because I was increasing voltage output by constantly the revving motor. It's one of those gremlins that starts compounding any problem...

    Guess who's back

I did as suggested. The timing is spot on. What I have discovered is that I have a very thin intake wall at the base. We doubled up on the gaskets and seems to help. Now while doing that and getting the car to run like it should we noticed my ballast resistor spring was glowing red hot. Not...

    Guess who's back

Wow! I never even considered that! I will pull my carb and see what's going on. I have been running the same intake for years. It is a basic Edelbrock performer.

    Guess who's back

I have tried three different carbs. Still runs the same after trying them. The timing I will check. Maybe the timing jumped somehow? I messed with the idle mixture and idle speed settings on all the carbs. It can be made to idle by retarding the timing and adjusting the mixtures way out, but it...

    Guess who's back

Been trouble shooting my car for two weeks now. After being told by numerous people I have a vacuum leak because my car won't run unless the throttle is constantly mashed, I replaced the intake gaskets and base gasket for carb. Still wouldn't idle. While working on the car I accidentally...

    340 heartache

Today I was busy, but I had an extra couple of minutes to look at the 'Cuda. I thought I would choke the Demon carb by placing a rag over the front two barrells. The car idled up and continued to run unaided. After I removed the rag the engine idled up for about five seconds and then promptly...

    340 heartache

I want to try this. Problem is I would have to start the car but it would be hard to work the throttle and turn on propane bottle at same time. can I keep throttle closed and use the propane?

    340 heartache

You're right. Cheap Insurance! I will install a new one in case! However the 340 seems to keep running as long as throttle is being worked. Before I removed the Edelbrock it would run with choke closed.

    340 heartache

That is a great question actually. Seeing how cold natured the car is I can't say for sure. I do know with choke closed it will stay running. I have a demon 650 on it with no choke.

    340 heartache

Running perfect! I don't know what's going on. It is something weird because I can't seem to isolate it. Maybe the filter at tank is clogged. I will check that after I do the vacume test.

    340 heartache

Looks like you got a cool project right now! I am a hot rodder not a numbers guy. So, I didn't want the car because I wanted to restore it, but instead just go fast and look cool. Still have that teenager mentality! What are you doing to yours?

    340 heartache

I will purchase a vacume gauge today and get those readings. I have a Crane 509" cam but no power brake booster. Motor is .040 over with x-heads. Edelbrock Performer intake and Hooker Super Comp headers. Mopar distributor tuned advance with orange box. Mallory coil and Moroso 8.8 wires. A-body...

    340 heartache

It's an ongoing build! The car is a real big block 4-speed car. The person I bought it from thought it was a small block car. Self-proclaimed Mopar expert! A quick check of the k-member and vin verified that it was a true big block car. I managed to locate an a-body 18 spline 4-speed for it. The...

    340 heartache

I will back down on pressure. I am thinking a vacume leak at the intake is very possible because aside from the constant peddle work the engine runs great. The car sat for about three weeks with that stuff the government tries to pass off as fuel these days. That's why I started at the carb. I...

    340 heartache

I am posting a new thread because I am convinced my issue is not fuel related as originally believed. So far, I have changed carbs three times. I put in a brand new distributor. I have a resistor that is one year old and tried two different coils. It also has a one year old orange box. No matter...

    Fuel Gauge not working

The oil gauge is not hooked up. Temp gauge goes all the way to hot when key is on.

    Fuel Gauge not working

I have installed a new sending unit in my tank on my '69 Cuda. I am using 3/8 braided hose all the way to motor. I attached a ground wire to the sending unit and frame. The gauge still doesn't work though. It doesn't even try to move when the key is turned on. Any ideas?

    It's happened.

It was the wire coming off the ignition switch running to the ballast resistor.
  28. VonCramp

    It's happened.

I checked resistor. It's doing it's job. If I run a hot wire to the resistor the car fires right up and runs fine. Apparently something to do with the main feed wire going to the resistor.
  29. VonCramp

    It's happened.

If I put a hot wire to the resistor she will run. As soon as the wire is pulled off it dies.

    It's happened.

I have a 1969 'Cuda. Yes it's a 'Cuda. It has a 340 in it right now though. Today she was running great. Shut her off and now she only cranks, starts, and dies. Immediately after she fires, she dies. Definitely getting fuel to the Holley Carb. Mopar orange box and Mallory coil and resistor. I...
