    1972 340 testing by Nick

I went with TTIs because the 340 I finally got didn't come with exhaust manifolds at all. My choice was paying a small fortune for stock 340 manifolds or paying a small fortune for shorty headers.

    Your first mopar...?

No pics because this predates digital photography but the first car I bought with my money was a '73 Challenger-318 slapstik, red with B&W interior and white vinyl top. $100. The PO drove it out of coolant and cooked the 318. Dropped a 360 smog motor in it and promptly beat the hell out of it...

How many of your personal cars ended up in junkyards?

Most of them. I drive them into the ground. The last one was a '96 Grand Prix. Touched 300,000 miles when the overheating issues and the rotten rear frame rails became chronic. Wasn't going to keep fixing it and didn't think it worth anyone else's time to either. The "Black Crow's" last day:

    Avoid this vendor!

I would actually rather use ebay because of scenarios like this. They have been very very good over the years about compensating me in the few times a seller has failed in any manner. They have access to all communications and information and always resolve any issue in 3 days. Never lost a...

    What's up with legendary interiors?

I tried to log in earlier this week to double check the rear seat covers I had on my wish list and to see if there was an update on my front seat vinyl and the log in option is gone. Emailed them to ask what was up and the response was they "updated" the website and all accounts have been...

I HAVE TO PUT THIS OUT THERE

That mixing cup would have to be so far off to make anything remotely like this happen and it seems you would notice that while spraying. The only thing that rings a bell with this issue is someone I knew using mil-spec epoxy paint by mixing the paint and going straight into the booth to spray...

Center of balance on a Rotisserie

This is personal preference but this is how my stripped out shell lined up. It was a tad bottom heavy but I wanted it that way-I did not want this to get away from me while I was rotating it and have the roof slam into the steel connector across the bottom because it wasn't high enough to clear...

BEWARE of doing business with 340bird71

That is discerning, but in 30+ years of looking for a 340 for my car I have always looked at whatever I found with the knowledge that I will have to tear it down and rebuild it regardless of what the seller says. I don't care if it's presented as a $4000 freshly rebuilt motor-I want to know...

BEWARE of doing business with 340bird71

Him, yes? The car, no. The car didn't do anything wrong. Had a friend who pissed off his girlfriend who responded by keying his '71 Road Runner. Pissed me off in turn. Not for his sake-he was an *** anyway-but the car didn't deserve it. Paid $1250 for a '70 340 that was disassembled for some...

    Steering Shaft

They're not painted from the factory because they are supposed to collapse in a wreck and the paint would cause it to bind.

Old fuel disposal or use ?

I had to do the research some years ago when I was dealing with HAZMAT in NoCal. We had a 250 gallon fuel tank in the yard that had to be removed/destroyed and it probably had about 30 gallons left in it. I found the recommended formula was 1 gallon of old gasoline to 10 gallons of new...

Is supply catching up to demand yet?

Relevant to the thread title, AMD called me today to tell me fenders for my Duster are back in stock. A whole lot of people believed that would never happen.

    Shipping torsion bars

I bought a pair from someone on here IIRC and he just wrapped them up in a couple layers of bubble wrap and shipped them. And they traveled just fine. I'd think it would take a blow well beyond anything they could potentially be subjected to in the back of a ups truck to damage them.

What's up with Classic and Legendary ..?

Nope. Started this trip in what is now called Greater North Chicagoland and spent the majority of my life about 45 min. north of Madison WI. Put on my exploring shoes back in 2005 (the humidity was killing me) and haven't looked back.

What's up with Classic and Legendary ..?

Can't speak for what's happening in China but here supply issues are a problem too. Running out of tuners is a situation and it seems every week we have to hold a line of guitars until we get more in. Plus our production numbers are way up so we go through parts a lot faster than we used to...

What's up with Classic and Legendary ..?

We have about that many guitars on backorder right now. The company is doubling the size of the production facilities here to try to catch up. Represents some $6M in unmade guitars.

A life's (fatal) lesson on how NOT to maintain magnetos

The issue wasn't just the added weight but the location of the added weight. Crews would load up their extra ammo n the radio room, well aft of the aircraft's center of gravity located near the forward bulkhead of the bomb bay. Pilots who dealt with this (and survived) reported when the aircraft...

A life's (fatal) lesson on how NOT to maintain magnetos

There were instances of crews with the 8th AAF who loaded up so much ammo for a mission it upset the aircraft's CG causing the plane to crash on takeoff. Pilots learned to keep a pretty close eye on that, particularly as missions went deeper into Germany.

Love the wheels on that beast. It got real old pushing those things around with little steel casters on it.

Let's do it!!! Mopar Motor Monday!

Slowly nibbling away at a '70 340 to go into the '72 Duster 340 in the background. Working for a living and a broken right hand has slowed me down considerably but I have what I need to get the cam & timing chain in. Except time...

4spd Z-bar bracket on automatic cars

Must've gone through nearly a dozen 70-72 Duster parts cars over the years (mostly in the early years); all of them automatics and all of them had that mount. I assumed they made them all the same and never gave it a second thought. What sucked for me is none of them had the ball for the Z-bar...

I've been telling people for years that I'm actually working on my coffin. Been with me almost 36 years now-why shouldn't I take it with me? But the car is nothing. I'm a scale modeler with the obligatory sizeable stash...
