How long has the original caulk been in there? Probably as long as you've been alive. And how well did it protect the metal under there? I'd remove any rust you find, neutralize the rust with whatever your favorite product is, and re-caulk it.

I'd like to know what to do to refurb them, either paint them with flexible rubber bumper stuff(?) or use something on them to soften them up and reinstall plain. Would like to ditch them altogether with 74 and back bumpers but not sure if the mounting points are still there for 75 and 76 (?).

3m Window Weld, glue the gasket to the opening, then a small bead in the groove for the windshield. No leaks. But no taking the glass out either unless you cut the gasket. Rear windows usually call for bedding compound but I skip it and just use the window weld.
