how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

I'm getting off topic here, but the guy behind the New Mind youtube channel does great videos. Here's a recent video he did on the history of driveshafts and the various joints they use. But I'm sure if we asked him he'd say the 741 case is fine :D

how strong is the 8 3/4 #741 case?

I don't think a 741 differential is measurably weaker than the 742 or 489. Typically when an 8 3/4 breaks it's not because the pinion snaps. Usually the caps will blow out (driver side), the cross shafts will grenade, or the gear teeth will simply shear off. I'm no expert so don't take my...

Where To Get A New one Of These....

I bought a heater box rebuild kit from DMT (70 Swinger) and it was great. Also got a fuel tank filler tube gasket and a bunch of firewall gaskets, including the one for the steering column. All good stuff.

    V8 K Frame?

Ha ha, I'm sure my little 'teener isn't making any more than 300 HP, so I don't have to worry about the motor wanting to roll itself over! I looked up those control arm plates and they seem like a good idea too. Thanks for the tip!

    V8 K Frame?

Right, I've seen guys weld up the seams and reinforce in some key places. That sounds like a good idea. I have to wonder why ma mopar would have used different K frames? My 318 sits perfectly on the 6 cylinder frame with the conversion mounts. Why didn't they just use 1 K frame and compensate...

    V8 K Frame?

Hey guys, I have a 6 cylinder K frame in my car with Schumacher conversion mounts. The car is a 70 Dart with a 318 and 904 with all factory style steering and suspension it has a front sway bar with manual steering and power Kelsey Hayes disk brakes. The only thing abnormal about the steering /...

To lower or not to lower???

Here's my setup. About 2" lower in the back with blocks and 1.5" inches in the front by adjusting the torsion bars. I've done the grease on the bump stop trick that Blu talked about (I actually used toothpaste) and I managed to drive around for a couple days without kissing the bump stop. Blu is...

    Lowering Blocks

Here's 3 heights on the same car. Pic 1 is how I got the car, with 3" blocks in the back. Pic 2 is how the car looked with no blocks at all. I had to remove them when I put the long tube headers on. Pic 3 is with the blocks at about 2", and that's how the car sits now. The torsion bars were...

    8 3/4 + Hp = ?

A friend of mine had a similar set up in a 71 Dart. He went through several 8.75 rear ends before he finally gave up and went to a Ford 9". If it were me I would sell that 8.75 while it's still in once piece and get something better.

    Lowering a 67 dart

I have my 70 Swinger lowered using blocks in the back and the torsion bar adjustment in the front. I had the front end aligned after the adjustment and the ride is fine, the suspension travel is adequate, and there are no oil pan clearance issues. However, long tube headers don't work; they...
