NEED 1973-76 Disc Brake Distribution /Proportioning Valve

Thanks. We tried the combined booster and m/c from a 76 Dart today with little improvement. Front brakes still do not want to grab much. Ordered the Inline distribution/combination block today per your suggestion (I have the 71-72 "pin" style B/E body calipers). I'll let you know what happens. Bill

NEED 1973-76 Disc Brake Distribution /Proportioning Valve

Still working on my brake problem (see various topics from billkrz). I have been informed that I need the distribution block (where all the brake lines meet) for a 1973-1976 A body. This is because my 1968 Dart which originally had drums has been switched to 70-72 B/E discs which have a 2.75 "...

    Brake Pressure Reading

The system(B/E calipers, 72 B/E master, 71 Dart Booster, 11"rear drums) is not allowing the front discs to apply much pressure at all. The car will either lock up the rears or glide to a stop if you use light pressure. Current thought is a mismatch between booster and M/C. Bill

    Distribution/Combination/Safety Switch Block

I need some clarification/opinions on the distribution/combination/safety switch block. I have a 1968 Dart with original power drum brakes. The car was swapped to B/E pin type discs and 11" rear drums, still with power booster. According to the 1968 parts book, the brake distribution block(where...

    Brake Pressure Reading

My mechanic is pulling his hair out trying to get my front disc brakes to work(please see other posts). Has anyone ever removed the pads and tried to get a force pressure reading between the piston and the caliper? Does anyone have any line pressure readings? Thanks, Bill

Need Help With Disc Brake Coversion

Changed the rear wheel cylinders to 7/8" very little improvement. I'm using the stock Dart power disc booster with the B body 1 1/32 " master. Can that be a problem? Do I need to change the stock Dart safety switch/distribution block? Bill

Need Help With Disc Brake Coversion

Took off the distribution/safety switch. looks OK. As soon as you take pressure off, it recenters itself. Question: it is the stock 1968 unit. The parts book for 1968 says that ALL Mopars used this unit in 1968 for both discs/drums. I now have a 1972 B/E brake system. So...does the distribution...

Need Help With Disc Brake Coversion

Yes, the bleeders are at 12 o'clock. Systems has been bled. New M/C was bench bled. Took off the distribution/safety switch and all looks well. Took apart the new M/C and it looks ok however, it measures 1 1/8" not 1 1/32" as advertised. Would that make any difference for not having front...

Need Help With Disc Brake Coversion

Yes, they are plumbed correctly and the M/C was bench bled. Still no or little front brakes. Do I need a residual valve on the master for the rear shoes? Bill

Need Help With Disc Brake Coversion

Hello to all. I need some advice regarding the brakes on my 1968 Dart. It originally came with power drum brakes. Somewhere along the line, a previous owner changed the bolt pattern to 4 1/2". At the same time, he swapped the front brakes for the 1970-1972 B/E body discs and 11" rear drums. When...

Looking for new 68 Dart Power Disc Master Cylinder

Thanks but I tried Advance, Autozone, Napa, Fisher, Rock Autoparts (online), MP Master, Stephens Performance, Etc. with no luck on a new 1968 Master for a Power Disc Dart. I had to settle for a rebuild from a Mopar supplier who only rebuilds original Chrysler cores. If you have a source, I'd...

    Need Proportioning Valve Recommendation

So...do I need a valve for just the rear wheels or for all four? Seems that there are two opinions here. Thanks, Bill

    Need Proportioning Valve Recommendation

I have a 68 Dart that was upgraded to the 70-74 B body discs (single piston with pins) and 11 inch drum brakes. The master wasn't changed from the original power drum unit. Thanks to people on this board, I've been recommended to change to the 73-78 B body master cylinder. I also need a...

    Master Cylinder Recommendation

Thanks. Regarding the 73-78 B body Master cylinder recommendation, will this bolt up to my '68 power booster? Also, do I still need an inline proportioning/balance valve or is this built in? Bill

    Need help identifying brakes please

Thanks for everyone's input. Now that it seems I have 1970-72 B/E body front discs and HD 11x2 1/2 rear drums, I need a recommendation as to master cylinder as the Dart still has the master cylinder for a drum car and I've read that this is not a good idea. Right? I'll start a new thread for...

    Master Cylinder Recommendation

Hello. This is a continuation of my thread "Need Help Identifying Brakes Please". Now that you all have helped me identify what I have: 70-72 B/E body front discs and 11x2 1/2 inch rear drums (probably H-D B Body from same era), my next question is what Master Cylinder do you recommend...

    Need help identifying brakes please

Thanks, guys. Yes, you are correct, the bolt pattern is 4 1/2 inches. Next, I'll post a photo of my rear brakes. They are drums and the drums are 11 inch diameter and 3 inches in depth. The drum is stamped Centrifuse M 35681. The lining on the shoes are 2 1/4 inches wide. I'm guessing they...

    Need help identifying brakes please

Thanks. I have a further question, then. According to what I've read, the disc rotors were changed on B bodies to 1 piece in 1973. I'm assuming that the rotors I have are the 2 piece if someone could verify this from the photos. If mine are the 2 piece, and assuming the fellow got them from the...

    Need help identifying brakes please

Hello. I have a 1968 Dart and the brakes were changed to discs and larger rear drums from the original power drums. I need help identifying what I have. The previous owner thought the brakes were from a later Dart but I do not think so. Also, the master was not changed from the original. I have...
