My '72 Scamp has the map light switch. The map light is located by the pass. kick panel under the glove box. Don't know how you can read a map with that light! That light comes on with the opening of the doors and separately with the switch. It more of a passenger courtesy light.

If you decide to do it yourself, a little trick I learned was to cover the seat foam with very light weight plastic (dry cleaner bags work best) and the new covers slip on hassle free.
