If your intake has not been port matched, there could be decent gains there also.

Do you have any base line performance to compare before and after, or just working towards the 340 comparison?

my Low dollar 318 hop-up project

One advantage to having the machine shop do the valve job would be that you could have had the valves back cut. Which would be a significant improvement in low lift flow which equates to better throttle response and low speed torque. I'm waiting to see the results of the finished set up though...

It will also make a lot more power with the same mods as the La.

my Low dollar 318 hop-up project

I had the comp version of that cam in my 318 about 25 years ago. 218/[email protected] .454 lift. Had a nice sounding idle.

my Low dollar 318 hop-up project

Cool build! When I was younger, (broke), I always wanted to see what could be done to a 318 on a tight budget. I has actually started to work on a set of stock 318 heads, but never finished.

    408 6pack setup

If peak power was only at 4600, there is something wrong. I would think that cam should make power to at least 6000, even in a 408.

How Much Can Heads Improve Compression???

Wrong answer! I have a magnum 5.2 with 8.86 cr. Roller cam 210/220 @.050, 1.72 roller rockers that give me .538 lift. Ported magnum heads with 1.97 int valves. Engine dynoed 290 at the wheels. 3800 lb Dakota ran 13.27. So a non stock cam will work even with lower compression.

I don't think so, but not sure.

    Considering magnum swap

if you used the 5.2 and swapped to a 5.9 later you would need the 5.9 pcm unless the 5.2 pcm could be reprogrammed for the 5.9. The difference between a stock 5.2 vs 5.9 is about 20 hp, but there is quite a difference in torque. Found this on another forum. The 5.9L is rated 245 hp/345...

    360 build ????s

I find it interesting that you went to a smaller cam with 11 degrees less intake duration and 5 degrees less exh duration, but ran almost the same et.

    318 head options ... again!!

I strongly disagree with this. My 5.2 in my 3800 lb Dakota has 8.86:1 compression. Dynoed 290 at the tires. Ran a 13.27 @ 103. Peak flow of the heads was, IIRC 241 @ .500 lift. Ported magnum with 1.97 intake valve

    machining intake to match heads

You also need to take into consideration the amount of crush the intake gasket might have when torqued.

    Wondering about my combo

Should be easy mid to high 12's. I have a magnum 5.2 with good ported factory heads ([email protected] lift) and a lot less cam (210/[email protected]) in my Dakota. At 3800 lbs race weight and 4.10 Gears with 2400 converter it went [email protected].

    318/390 Build Progress

My 3800lb 87 Dakota is close to the 12's with just a 5.2. And it's a mild build. Cam is 210/220 @ .050. I don't think that should be a problem with that combo! The headers will be holding it back some though.

which intake to use on stock 318?

I would not use either one of those. Those are both single plane intakes. You want a dual plane manifold like a edelbrock performer.
