    400 stroker or 440

I chose sell the 440 stuff and build the 451 for the simple reason the 400 package is smaller, and a bit lighter. Wasier to put in an A-Body IMHO. j

    Oil pans

Cool! Thanks for the info. That is pretty much what I was looking for. The 187 pan being good enough for a 5-550HP motor is good news, as I have one :D That makes it easier for me to spend the money elsewhere. On the topic of the oil pump ( all I have is stock pumps now ) there is no...

    Oil pans

I am hoping to put together about 5-550 HP Stroker motor. I was just wondering if I would need a higher capacity than what seems like such a small oil pan can hold. I am comparing this to a stock truck pan FWIW. So, the 187 should be plenty, you think? j

    Oil pans

OK, is there a specific part number for a larger capacity oil pan, that won't get smashed when I pass over a speed bump, and still clear the steering on the Duster? ( MAN I HATE THOSE THINGS! disgust ) I hadn't got to the oil pump yet, but that is good info. Thanks :D I am hoping to pick up...

    Oil pans

I see a lot about big block headers, K-frames, and such, but I don't see a lot about oil pans. I am building a Duster that is going to be powered by a stroker 400. I have a 187 oil pan, but am wondering, do I need a different oil pan for a "performance" motor? Would I be better off using the...

    R.v. - 440/727

Hey, man...it's a 440 :D I pulled one out of my Winnebago last month. I paid $400 for the Winnebago and drove it home. I was gonna put it in my '72 D100, but decided on just getting a different truck. Thinking now of putting it in a different car. Gonna hold onto it for now... j

    Broken Alternator Braket

One of my co-workers was able to weld it up for me. I'm going to reinstall it this weekend. If all goes well, I'll also be swapping out my 68 Dart K-frame, in disc brakes, and the 7.25 for an 8.25 rear. :D j

I should have posted this with the first post, but was too lazy. Then I had two teeth extracted on Friday, and have been recovering since :( j

    Broken Alternator Braket

It's the bracket. I GUESS the alternator is OK, sinve I can't put a belt on to find out, and the bracket is broke. I was looking at the chrome kit you find in hot rod shops. One of the guys I work with is a welder, so I am going to see if he might be able to fix the one I have. If not, try...

    Broken Alternator Braket

So, I picked up a 77 Winnebago with a 440. Yeah, I know it's not an A body, but it IS a 440 :D Well, the alternator bracket broke at the top left alternator. Can I just swap an alternator bracket off a junk yard 440 to fix my Winny, or do I need to contact Winnebago about this? j

    Can your machineist fix this?

I met up with Red today. It was good to meet someone from the board, that has a love for these old cars. Thanks to Red for the great deal on the motor. If you decide you need some Home Entertainment work done, don't hesitate to give me a holler. If I can't do it, I know how to make it...

    Can your machineist fix this?

Saturday may turn out to be a short day. If so, Saturday afternoon/Evening ok with you? I'd be coming from West Seattle as that is where my job is. I don't know if they will have be doing anything after or not. I'll call you and let you know. j

    Can your machineist fix this?

So, I started taring down my 400 to send to the machine shop. I came across this Think it is fixable? Guess I just need to find me another 400 block :angry7: What sucks is, I have no idea how to get ahold of the guy I bought it from now, and doubt I could get anything anyway This...

    v8 kframe vs Schumacher kit

I was looking over that page and saw the pictures. Does cutting and rewelding the mounts in place hurt the integrity of the motor mounts? Would there be any issues with the new seams coming appart? j

    Big block and TREMEC trans

I am more than a little interested in this. Unfortunately, it will take a Gov't bail out to afford one :( I hope I can save up enough ( not after tonights computer parts purchasing tour ;) ) I was wanting the 6 speed, but they told me the 6 spd won't handle the torque :( No biggie...it would...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

Dunno yet. I haven't got that far into it yet ;) I looked up something I found on line from CAP...it looks to be the same kit that Mancini has. when getting pistons for it, you need the 400 bore size. Hope this helps... I could get the Alterkation, but it would set my completion date back...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

I talked to someone at 440source.com today. I am confident that my plan to build a 451 with the MP 292/509 cam, 727 trans, 2800-3200 converter, 3.90 gears, and a good chassis will net me the timeslips I want. The current plan is: 400 Block 451 Stroker kit MP 292/.509 Hydrolic Cam Stealth...

This is good information. I'll use this, plus what I receive from 440source.com, and ...crap, can't remember who I sent the email about heads to... #-o but when they reply, I'll put it all into a combination and post it here to get your opinions. I've given consideration to the idea of just...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

Yeah, I understand that it is a combination. Much like building a good home theater. You have to chose components that compliment each other. So, to wit... The body will be essentially stock steel with a glass hood, and maybe fenders...dunno yet. I will have weld in sub frame...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

That is a lot of good information. I will be giving, Brandon (?) a call either Friday, or later on. My schedule is wonky. This is my 4 day weekend, but I am headed out of town for the weekend for a nice getaway that both me and my GF need. So I understand, a streetable Big inch 440 stroker...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

Do you think I am expecting too much from a combination like I had above? What can I expect? I haven't heard back from Comp Cams yet, so what cam do you think I should have in a 512 with 9.7:1 comp, and either a single big 4bbl, or 3 2's? is it because they don't flow well enough? Will a set...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

Here is my thought process. If you have a 383 magnum, you have X HP and Y torque. If you up the CID and built it in a similar fashion, you should have a percentage better of both. Sort of the same concept of 383 magnum to 440 magnum. The 440 magnum is always going to make better HP/TQ than...

To Stroke, or not to Stroke

At the time, I didn't have a 440. Now that I have one, I may change my mind, but I will probably go with the 451 Stroker, if not the 512. I just need to find out if there is more block prep for the 512. If it is a drop in deal, like they claim, I don't see why I don't go with the 512. As for...
