9.5 inch Clutch and flywheel, slant to 273

My '66 273 had a 10" clutch. Bought a replacement package, installed it, thought it had problems, so I bought another from Brewer's Transmissions. After a phone call to Brewers about adjustments, I learned it was me who F'd up. I sold the first assembly to a FABO member. The clutch I have...

    Were early 4 speeds painted?

Mine was unpainted. I dusted it with a light coat of Rust-o-leum Aluminum paint before I installed it.

    Clutch issue

I am with Dave ... Re-read his posts #19 & #23. I had this same problem until a call to Brewers helped me understand how the over center spring works. Think of it this way: When you release the clutch pedal, the pressure plate fingers begin to “throw” the shift fork (and clutch pedal with it)...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

OK, think I’m good now. I loosened all cover bolts and disconnected the reverse lever at the cover. I was able to push the cover up. I tightened the two side shoulder bolts. I put the reverse lever back on, tested it out and got more good shifts out of it this time, but then it locked again. I...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

Back from a nice wedding, and a birthday afternoon with my kids at a local brewery (Kudo's to Calicraft in Walnut Creek!!) Tonight, back under the car to check it out. And that wraps up today's lesson in Combinations and Permutations!

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

Found this on YouTube this morning. Unfortunately, I have to run up to a wedding this afternoon, won’t be back until tomorrow. At 12:15, the elf explains how to adjust the cover. (LOL, this filmstrip reminds me of sixth grade sex ed back in the day!)

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

Also, 66fs, the two middle outside bolts are shoulder bolts. The last time, I tightened those before tightening the corner bolts, thinking it would reset/reposition the cover. Didn’t work. One last thing: If I sit and shift continuously, I can go through the gears pretty well. If I...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

OK, pretty frustrated now. Have done this four times, loosen ALL bolts about an eighth of an inch to where the fluid is coming out. I have punched UP the cover with a rubber mallet and I’ve punched UP the cover using the mallet on a punch. I don’t hear a “magic”click or anything. I’ve...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

Wow, thanks for the wealth of opinions. The tranny was working fine when I picked up this car. Since I went into overhaul mode, I had a very reputable shop in town (owner had been involved in Mopar drag cars for years) tear it down, look it over, and reseal the tranny. He found no problems...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

I set the shifter using this homemade alignment tool described in the factory manual. When this problem first occurred, I thought maybe the reverse throw was too long, so a backed the length just a tad, but it didn’t help.

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

Well, hell, here it is in May, and I’m just now getting around to this. I did as Perfacar explained: Loosened cover (backed the ten cover bolts back about a turn and a half to where fluid started to seep out), put in reverse, then tightened the bolts. At first, reverse was locked again. I...

A833 Four Speed Gets Stuck in Reverse

'66 Barracuda, A833 four speed, original New Process shifter. Car has recently on occasions got stuck in reverse, I get underneath the car and whack the shift lever to pop the reverse lever back into neutral so I can get it back into other gears. Last night, I moved the car, put it into reverse...

    Aluminum Bell Housing

My ‘66 273 came with a 9 1/2”, went with a 10” from Brewers after reading on Toolmanmike’s 273 build. I used the stock iron bellhousing, fit like a glove.

    Clutch Pedal Not Returning Completely

I can tell you it's a fine line when it comes to adjusting these clutches. I have the three finger clutch. The override spring PLUS the pressure plate combine to throw the pedal back, so adjusting the fork rod is critical.

    brewersperformance?

Yup. Bought a clutch assembly from them, could not get the pedal adjustment right. I called them up and they explained how it's designed and I was able to get the adjustment right. Good guys!

    Diaphragm vs. Borg and Beck.............

I went with a new B&B clutch from Brewers, pedal effort is the same as the worn B&B I pulled out, which was not that hard. I did not want to mess with the overcenter spring. It was, however, a balancing act trying to adjust it.

Borg and Beck Clutch Without Override Spring

Any FABO members run a Borg and Beck style three finger clutch without an override spring? I pulled a shot (worn to the rivets) B&B style clutch out or my car. Replaced it with a 9 1/2" LUK assembly from RockAuto. Disc, pressure plate, and bearing were all a perfect match to the old parts I...

    Clutch Pedal Stop Bumper

I just discovered my car does not have one of these. There is a small rectangular slot above the pedal where it probably went. I'm not sure how high my pedal should be coming up. It might help if I had this stop, found in Classic's catalog.
