The Feel Between Manual and Power Brakes

Power brakes might be necessary for an old lady. It's like a lot of things.....once someone gets used to driving a car with fingertip power steering or a super light clutch pedal, going back to the older stuff seems......crazy, unsafe or just nuts (in a lot of people's minds) I get a kick out...

    Disc Brakes or Drum Brakes

I have had 4-wheel drum brakes on a lot of my A-bodys, well, actually all the slant 6 daily drivers only. Since they got a lot of care and checking and manual adjusting, they stopped very well, didn't pull and had a nice high pedal. Discs are much better, but drums aren't like crazy...

    disks outside the box

Maybe keep scouring Craigslist for parts cars. I know the 73+ stuff is getting scarcer on the ground, but it's out there. You might be able to source something and beat $500, even shipped.

    caliper position whats best

    10 X 1.75 rear drums on 7.25 rear vs. 8 3/4

Yeah, I parted out a wrecked '70 Duster with a 318/3-speed and an 8 3/4" rear with flared drums......what's up with the flared drums?.....cooling? Whatever....I'm gonna run these 10" drums on the new 8 3/4" rear I just installed......I feel like doing a victory dance!!

    10 X 1.75 rear drums on 7.25 rear vs. 8 3/4

Did Mopar ever actually use the same 10 X 1 3/4" rear drum brakes on a 7 1/4" rear end as on the 8 3/4" rear end? Here's the deal.....I just yanked out my old wimpy 7 1/4" rear end and installed an 8 3/4".....I installed the correct (and all rebuilt) backing plates from an A-body. I thought I...

    Beyond Belief...

True....I've seen it into the cooling fins too, but usually those cars are in the junkyard. One thing though, and that is.....once it gets to metal-on-metal, things start wearing fairly fast. You know how people are......wanting to "make it" til payday......and keep driving their cars to work...
