I used to always put a little grease on (and behind) the pilot bushing on my clutch jobs. Then I read about the oilite bushings and never did it again. BTW, all the times before where I greased them, I'd notice that my clutch discs would be a little greasy when I'd pull 'em apart later...

I think also, sometimes if a clutch disc gets a bit oily, or the flywheel/pressure plate starts getting some high spots....it will make the trans keep spinning when the clutch pedal is pushed in, which of course will lead to difficulty in putting it in gear.

Yes. Could be a lot of things, but I'll bet a clutch kit cures it.

I would think you should be able to tell by looking closely at the chrome whether either one has been bent or heated, then bent. I had an old firebird that had an original Hurst shifter handle that was angled towards the driver like that.

Hope you got a Competition Plus shifter box with those little adjustable stops, 'cuz it looks like you could do some hellacious slamming shifts with that thing.

If it were me, I'd see how much flex or weakness this cutting caused then maybe make some custom metal plates to beef up the area around that hole. Unless you wanna bring it back to original....which seems a bit more labor intensive. I've got a feeling that hole didn't weaken things too badly...

I would tend to agree......it seems like when I installed mine, there wasn't any confusion as to where it would mount....when I slid it back and forth, left and right, it just seemed to fit one way, one location.

I used a plastic clutch alignment tool and I've got the feeling that maybe those aren't the greatest because it took me hours and hours to finally get mine in......bitchin' and yellin' all the while. That S.O.B. was almost rolling off the jack at times......that was NOT an easy job. I'll bet...
