    Rarity?

Thanks for the clarification Dan. I am just going by what I have heard and read, and my own experience. I admit however that I am no where near as well read as you. I formulate my opinion thdough my personal exeperience - I have had late 60s mopars with manual drum brakes that worked awesome...

    Rarity?

Honestly, IMO you really do not need power brakes in an A body, and it is a fact that, when properly maintained and adjusted, drum brakes stop better than disc brakes. Once only. Where drum brakes fall down is in their ability to shed heat, so they are very prone to brake fade due to boiling the...

    Rarity?

Dart, barracuda, valiant? Other options that make it rare? In my opinion, no. There were tens of thousands of these cars built as low dollar grocery getters with 6 cylinders. Most of the A bodies I have owned and seen from that era were manual drum brake cars.

    Mystery - Strong Fuel Smell

I would suspect the fuel tank vapours expanding in the warm garage and exiting the tank, as suggested. If it hasnt been said yet, one more safety related item. Get rid of the plastic fuel filter. Plastic and glass filters can crack or rupture......you get the picture. Steel canister filters...

    oops I did it again

As above, there are broken tap extractors, I think snap on sells them. They have 4 fingers that go down the flutes in the broken tap and you can carefully turn it out, use some heat! Option number two, taps are, as you found out, hardened and very brittle. You can break it up in situ with a...

    /6 random thrown rod

Exactly. Plus there is negligence on the part of the OP. He brought jiffy lube a car with a known defect, the oil pressure warning light was non functional. They had no way of knowing if there was an oil pressure problem with the car after changing the oil. And then there is the possibility...

    /6 random thrown rod

Fram filters have been known to have major issues - google fram oil filter reviews and see what comes up. Bottom line is they are not great. At any rate, what part number fram is on it? The part number will be painted on the filter, and will be like PH-8A. Without a working light or gauge you...

    /6 random thrown rod

It was already mentioned, but I will state it again. CHECK THE PART NUMBER OF THE FILTER. Google it, be sure it is the right one. You should be able to see it without removing it. If it is right, have it removed by a certified mechanic who will sign an affidavit about what he finds. Have him...

    Correct upper coolant hose?

The hose doesn't need a spring and shouldn't suck flat, if the rad is full and has no air in it.

    Correct upper coolant hose?

often times the replacement hoses are too long and need to be trimmed. I believe they are made to fit more than one application. Yours looks simple enough, just a single 90 degree bend, or thereabouts.. If you have a good auto parts store - get them to let you walk around and look at their hoses...

please help...if it's not one thing it's another....

Is it out of gas? I have had quite a few A bodies over the years that ran out at 1/4 or 1/8 tank showing on the gauge...... Like was already suggested - take off the air cleaner, hold the choke open and have someone pump the gas pedal - you should see gas squirt out of the accelerator pump...
