Double VIN stamping on M Code 440 Engine Block

When you have seen the UAW members on the job you can understand why the companies have no choice but to have a backup system in place

    400 engine

Went out and looked in my motor pile six 400's with thin balancer 11 with the thick one. So they are not extinct but not common.

What should you expect to pay for a complete 75 $400 core

If its a good buildable block that's in the ballpark. Unless of course you have a friend that gives you one.

What wouldn't be an insulting offer?

The answer you assume he will give is- ill take your offer.

What wouldn't be an insulting offer?

NEVER assume the owner has no idea what they are worth! Or best offer means exactly that. It does not mean- ill take whatever you offer. He is saying- this is a ballpark figure of what I will take.

Big Block Conversion, do it again?

Big blocks are nice and torque monsters but weight is a factor and if you go aluminum money is a factor.Straight line brute force- big block, small blocks are a lot more"user friendly"

383 build help one piece at a time

Like the guys said its a system not just one component.I was around when these things rolled off the trailer from Fenton and most were not slouches then.A stock 383 in an a body will roast a bunch of tires. You will have trouble hooking up if you can tune it at all.

    Best motor for 69 Barracuda

    Easiest and cheapest way-360.Have a 69 340 and 69 440,smallblock handles better.360 can be had forlow bucks.Saw a 318 cop car engine-4bbl with trans 450,in Ky craigslist.Don't forget-if you have a 7.25 rear don't go crazy with 300 hp

    8 3/4 life span.

I don't know about life span-too many variables.I could take you out to the bonepile at the salvage and you can see all types that have broke, some behind 4 cyl and some behind diesels. All in all the 8 3/4 is a great rear, used behind /6 all the way up to 440's ,can't say much more than that.
