Noob question 727 really low shift points

My Buddy is having the same problem with an old truck 727. He never ran it but had the transmission rebuilt and when he went back to the transmission guy and said it was out of an old military truck the transmission guy told him they had lower planetary gears. I never heard of such a thing but...

An auto car on a tow dolly?

And that reminds me.....I had to come-along the car forward to the stops on the dolly and then strap it down. Otherwise it would move back and forth and cause a wild sway at 55 mph. But once I tightened it down good I could keep it rolling without problem.

An auto car on a tow dolly?

A trailer with trailer brakes is one thing and a dolly is another. But I had a 99 Dakota 3.9 that I towed a Duster 300 miles on a dolly...and a 72 Challenger on the same Dolly from Kentucky to PA almost 800 miles lots of steep grades but not like yours. Other than gas mileage the truck worked...

An auto car on a tow dolly?

You are so underestimating your Dakota. Same engine as a full size. That thing will do anything you want.

Big question to settle a ahem discussion

Is a truck 727 automatic transmission the same as a car other than the tail shaft? Is the gearing different in a truck?

I must be one lucky some beach.

I am so happy to hear this. Like RRR...I quit saying I did it because people don't believe me. So they can spend their big bucks...I keep my mouth shut and just smile.

Chances are pretty good if you were using a 5 foot breaker bar you are not going to free it up in the car. pull it or drop it as suggested.

    Rebuild transmission troubles

If it was tight....did you line up the TC to the tranny with the pump dogs/ears in the proper slots of the TC? I don't know the proper terms for this but I do know when I took mine back apart I had knocked the little dogs off of the main shaft requiring a new pump in a newly rebuilt transmission.

Help ! Can I remove the trans, but not the converter ?

See the notches cut into the Torque Converter? They have to match up with the notches inside the front of the transmission. If they do not match up it can be pulled together and there is where you ruin the pump. It is far easier to put the converter on the transmission and spin the converter...

    9 1/4 rear end?

I have one that came in a Volare and bolts right in the Duster. At least that is what he said it came out of. And he had pretty wide tires on it. It is a sure grip I still have it.

8 3/4 geared to low. Whats compatable?

If it is not shifting with the 4:56 gears I would be looking at the transmission. Unless you are already in high gear and it sounds as though you should be shifting again. Does your transmission shift into all 3 gears?

I need help concerning torque Converter

I am putting a new transmission in my 88 dodge truck. I know this is FABO but I do not belong to a truck site. I bought this transmission from a guy last winter I know he said it was for a 318. But how can I be sure that the torque converter is for a 318 and not a 360? It was a new...
