    Drivabilty vs. Performance help newbie

Sounds like a good set up, it should run great. Sure the intake gasket isn't leaking and yeah the carb fuel bowl levels are correct ? It needs more timing at idle but limit it to 34 degrees all in

3000 stall convertor and 2800 highway cruising

Us auto tranny guys need tranny with lock-up 3,000 stall and OD--and not that factory Mopar unit which seems to be too much hassle. Sure that t56 is nice, really nice but with clutch, linkage, trans $ is out of reach for many of us--me included

    low compression

Yep has the big bore and short stroke, likely find 7,000 rpm daily use no problems. You can run 9.5 even 10 to 1 with iron heads and good pump fuel. Too bad it cost what racing gas cost 5 years ago.

    Heat Cross-over

yep i think michigan is the same but what do 50% have--air gaps, lol Most hot rods are driven at night, now sure down south its different, in Texas I would have an air gap intake as well.

    Heat Cross-over

You can block some of it off or just one side. Up here in michigan I found its good to have a heated intake. Even today in 90 degree temps my water temp holds 170--175 in steady moving traffic or faster. Its not needed in 90 degree temps but 60 oh yeah, one good wot blast the intake gets cold...

    which distributor?

MSD E Curve To adjust the advance you just need to turn two tiny dials. No springs or weights. 100% electronic. Only downside is its not cheap

    Shifting at 4600 rpm?

I just threw away the kick down linkage and stock valve body and replaced it with a Cheetah manual valve body. Along with my 10 inch converter-it shifts perfect every time I WANT IT TO.

360 pistons .080 over / anybody make them for a stock stroke

Have a 340 which needs to go .040 over. Need a crankshaft as well so was thinking of getting a Scat cast cranks on 340 mains but a 3.58 stroke. Crankshaft price is great from RPM Machines at $300 but nobody I can find makes a .080 over piston for the 360. Kieth Black does make a 4.080 piston...

    302 casting potential?

Wow, now I am recalling why I left this site long ago, got tried of the BJR and others BS. That is too bad cause there are some great members on here but it gets very annoying seeing BS posts everyday. Why I spend my time on speedtalk:sign10:

    Show me your tachs!

Never understood this tach under the dash bit...one would think going at speed its best to keep a good eye on the road....I like shift lights for that reason. Never can tell whats ahead...I had some crazy stray dog come flying out from the side of the road once...I think I scare the poor thing...

I want more Hp for my 318

That 670 carb is a vacuum secondary carb, its not too big! I ran 650 DP with great results on my 318. Its camshaft and heads holding you back / plus those stinky little exhaust manifolds if you aren't running headers. (oh those wimpy valve springs have to go too...might as well throw some 360...

Stock Refurbished Rods VS Scat I Beam

I threw a rod once going wide open...loads of fun hearing a BANG and white smoke pouring out from behind as your ride starts slowing down while your foot is still down on the floor. Made it 1 good mile til the exit ramp or about 45 seconds and the motor just quit. Tow truck came with a flat bed...

    10s for 10k can i do it?

Yep until you get under 3000 lbs, then it gets better yet. Back in the 80's some mag did a test how weight effects et. They took a 1970 Cadillac like 5000 lbs and went from high 17's to low 13's just by removing weight. They took everything off, lol..doors, fenders, bumpers.

    Show me your tachs!

Whatever tach you do get make sure it has a shift light. Mines set at 6500 rpms and it stays on once it hits that rpm or goes higher. So its harder to blow your engine...if you have the light on in high gear and the motor throws a rod (happen to me in 2001) well you can't say you had no warning.

No A body....its an R body :sad9: But gee its so custom it turn in to a really cool car.

    Dual Quad SB

No I don't just going by how it feels and how quickly I can pass up these newer cars. I do have some wide open muti lanes roads with speed limits as high as 70 mph (one even has a stop light right before it. Maybe its more about the same power overall but it does feel better down low part...

    Dual Quad SB

Camshaft is 224 @ .050 on 111 LBC, its a custom grind from Mike Jones cams, he is on SpeedTalk dot com and does cams for pro racers. CamKing he goes by on there. No I found this intake on Ebay for $330 however Ebay been like dead with buyers lately and I seen a D64 intake sell with just 2 bids...

    Dual Quad SB

Everybody loves a show off 8) Guess that is the way to do it but mine hides under the hood and can be a daily driver and loves stop and go traffic now, along with high rpms.

    Dual Quad SB

318 block, bore .030 over with MP 360 heads with the 2.02 intake valves. Head were milled .030 and touch up by Muscle Motors here in Michigan. MM told me they believe the 308 heads--late 1980's 360 heads are the best factory head..besides those W2 heads. Sure some old 360 heads would be good...

    Any fast 318s out there?

Yeah but the 318 heads are too wimpy to make great power. I luck out and found some MP 360 heads with the 2.02 intake valves, it was based on the great 308 heads but these were never drilled for those air ports in the exhaust ports. Still some old 1971, 1972 J heads--or those $$$ X heads...

    Dual Quad SB

Check it out, dual 500 Carters on a Edelbrock D66 intake. That intake has not been made since the 70's but a for a few motors, like the BB Mopar its still available new. Motor runs nice, idles great and power is great. I say a bit BETTER than my RPM intake and Demond 650 DP carb. Idles a bit...

PCV- Good or bad idea for a performance engine?

I just run k&n breathers on my SB and use points to trigger the MSD ignition system, solid core plug wires, 360 heads on a 318...many no no's but it runs great.

    Living with 3.91's

To tell you the truth, I kind of wish I got 4.10 gears but before I had 360 heads on it, 3.91's were just right for it. Man those 340's must have been great to take up to 7000 rpms once the motor was blue printed.

    Living with 3.91's

I hit 120 mph today in a short run with my 3.91 gears and 27" tall tires--seem to still want to keep pulling but was running out of breath...besides I didn't want to start a post showing my 318 block with a big hole in the side from a thrown rod :-D

    Crankcase Ventilation

The motor needs to be broken in. Didn't know you had just 10 miles on it. If you can, run a pcv valve while breaking it in. Take it out for a long drive. What weight oil is it running. I use 20w-50 year round. Was told I am throwing away a little power over 10w-30 but I haven't have any...

    Crankcase Ventilation

Who saids ALL the rings are leaking? Just one cylinder can cause it. It HAS to be "blow by". They do make wet sump vacuum pumps. Those can and do work good on street motors-but they are market as "race only" to keep the EPA happy  I had a old motor years ago, it had broken rings...

Old Edelbrock Tarantula Intake Any Good?

Well 2 things come to mind, 1 did they change the jetting of the carbs since a dual plane intake should take smaller-but not always-jets than a single plane intake. Also it can usually take a smaller CFM carb to make best power-but my TM 5 papers saids for strip use, use a 850 dp-thats what it...

Old Edelbrock Tarantula Intake Any Good?

http://victorylibrary.com/graphics/TM5.jpg Right from Edelbrock. Now check this out, I found a brand new TM 5 on where else-E-bay for BIN $88 right to my door. I have a Torker 340 and put the TM 5 together, yes on the outside they look the same but the runners are deeper on the TM 5...
